Yes
Maybe. How far north and how difficult?
I took a nap on my cot in my basement yesterday to test out a new mattress. I really need to get out. :thumb:
Well, let's think about what's open - south to north
At least what my mind comes up with:
Switzerland (several of us have visited this of recent - time for something different)
Bunce / Ironclads (with the nice weather and on a weekend - it'll be packed with rentals - not high on my list)
Rock Creek (it's been a while - unknown as to snow conditions though - could be a bust if too deep)
North of Rock Creek I think we have to jump to Cherokee Park as...
Ballard / Greer - closed
Sevenmile - closed
In the Red Feather area there's
Chicken Park - closed
Many Thunders - closed
What we visited, partially, the last visit was Deadhorse Mountain
That was open last visit and I'd expect is still open. There are more trails - we traveled perhaps 40% of what's up there - that could be the destination.
Deadhorse Mountain anyone?
Other suggestions / thoughts - I'm game. Take an easy stroll through the EAST Pawnee (I've never been there)??
Attached is an MVUM PDF for Canyon Lakes North
Pawnee kind of sounds interesting to me. I’ve never wheeled there. Enjoyed your pics the last time you were there.
They supposedly had lots more snow then we had, but with 50-60s forecast early next week lots should be going fast.
Anyone else?
Wife and I are into Pawnee if that ends up being where you go. She loves it out there and it’s smooth enough to not make her sick which is a bonus!
Pawnee sounds good. Have never been out there.
I have some work in the AM, but if I can get done early enough I'll probably bring the wife and dog in our Xterra. It's really just dirt roads, but good ones in the snow. No shelves, few trees. :thumb:
Sure, we can do Pawnee.
I'd think Pawnee West might be the better of the two - more trail type of roads than east I think (looking at the MVUM's). We could do the same roads Mark / Mad Maxx and I traveled last year.

Black more county road - red two-track / trail

Attractions on the route include a ?radio repeater? station / building, wind mills / water tanks, old missile site (I think).
If you search Pawnee National Grasslands on Google Maps it says Temporarily Closed, but I can't find a status from the FS online.

Found this but probably would be good to call the fs anyway. Shooting areas closed.

The Buttes also close tomorrow for raptor nesting, but this is only for a small area around the buttes. We're planning to camp near the buttes Saturday evening after this run.

I knew that they did this yearly. Just didn’t know the dates (thanks), and figured it wouldn’t effect wheeling.
I'm up for Pawnee and camping Saturday night.
We're getting into a general "where" (more talk to happen!) now for a bit about "when"

What time is your guess?
The days are getting longer so we could press a bit later for a start / meet.
In my map above, "the box" took 4h15m (lower left corner to lower left corner)
Possible meet spot: Ault - northeast corner of US-85 & CO-14 (gravel lot by the train tracks/roads - Google Map). Gas stations are a block north and south on the west side of US-85.
thank you for asking, Jim! It's only Monday morning so I'm not sure how busy the rest of the week is going to be, definitely do not plan around me, I'll join in as I can. :thumb:

Location works for me. No earlier than 9 though 9:30 would be a bit easier.

I'd vote for 10:00 - 10:30. It looks like it is a couple hours to the area and we'll have some packing to finish Sat morning.
Jim, still planning on this? Want to put it on the calendar?
