Suggested Brands of Recovery Strap/Rope and Shakles?
I’m trying to help a relative with selecting some basic recovery equipment (no winch) for vehicles up to 1 ton Pickup, by another 1 ton pickup or a tractor. It would probably be used very little as he doesn’t do wheeling, only hunting, so a very expensive set would not make sense.
My thought is a moderately priced recovery strap/rope of 40,000 pound break rating and two similar soft shackles. There are many such brands and options to choose from these days.
Suggestions?

If you haven't caught Casey LaDelle's comments on soft shackle construction (what to look for / what to avoid), this video is of interest:

Harbor Freight has a full line of recovery gear at good prices. I have some of it in my Xterra's kit, and most of my basic hand tools in that kit are HF too.

If someone comes back to this thread in the future.... +1 for ASR like Jim suggested. I got a 7/8" 30' kinetic from them plus two soft shackles. I've used the gear on a number of winter pulls. I have no complaints. They're made in the USA and follow strict practices for testing/certification. They are a little more pricey but I feel like I can absolutely trust their gear. I may not be so trusting in the $25 amazon kinetic, if there is one.

Dyeema rope

Its what I used on the soft shackle I made. No stretch, which is absolutely essential plus stronger than any other common rope mater. 1/2” 34k breaking strength.

How many feet of rope go into one of your self-made soft shackles?

I double checked my receipt. I bought 7/16” * 5’. 5’ was not enough to do the blind button knot. 6’ should do it. 7 for sure.

Interesting, yours look great but different than the others- does the eye expand enough to take it off the knot? I've never seen them done that way before, thanks for posting. :thumb:

Hohenfels West Germany - My fault I told the driver to go thru it. Almost could make it forward and back, but the mud just had us spinning tracks. M3 Cavalry Bradley
It took two other Bradleys to get us out.
The winter pic is WildFlecken Germany = M901 ITV that slid off the road and 75% on its side - another M901 ITV behind it that almost followed it in.

It is easy to open and yes it opens plenty to get it over the knot. I have added a nylon sleeve to them for added protection. I do have a Factor 55 Fast FID which really helps.
