The Maze district of Canyonlands - September 23-26
Right after exiting Elephant Hill and the Needles district of Canyonlands, a few of us are going to fuel up and get supplies in Monticello or a Blanding and head to Bear Ears and join Woodenshoe Road, an easy overlanding Road that heads west from Bear ears and goes about 50 miles into the red desert near Hite crossing of the Colorado river near Lake Powell. We will camp along this road Wednesday night depending on how far we get. Thursday morning we will head to Hite and fill up and get any last supplies before heading north on the Flint trail, which takes us into the Maze district of Canyonlands. We will take the Doll House Road to our camp for the night, Standing rock. If it’s still early we will continue along this difficult and extremely remote road to the Doll House. This road is rated the same as Elephant hill and should be challenging! Staying at Standing rock campground Thursday night and then explore some Friday morning as we head back to the Flint trail and then take Poison Springs canyon west. I have a reservation at Sunset Pass camp along this road Friday night but if we decide to keep going to explore we can always camp along the road or in one of many offshoots. This road exits at Highway 95 and from there we will head north for a couple hours to I 70 on Saturday and head home!
I have 2 Canyonlands permits for this and we have room for one more vehicle if someone wants to join (let me know). This route is one of the most desolate trails in the lower 48, so not for the faint of heart.... I CANT WAIT!!!!!
