i'm ray.

i'm a loner who realizes i need to find some others to wheel with. i'm in the springs.

i've got a 70 bronco that i've been building for crawling for a few years now, it's getting there, but of course it will never be there. here's a brief rundown, stock tired ol 302 with a burnt valve(started with the best part) NP435/203/205/9"/44, locked f+r, 100" wb on 3" suspension lift, 36" TSLs until i can get some better rubber, butchered for clearance, the rock sliders are at floor level, i hacked 4" off the bottom of the doors. it can also be seen doing winter beater duties in town. pretty much all home built, i'm a machinist, so i made my own transfer case adapters, radius arms, etc. the truck actually is a complete rust bucket that i fixed up and painted before building the suspension, nearly all the sheetmetal has been replaced. it's no bling mobile, but it does alright for the old tech approach i took, ie. leaf springs and radius arms, etc.

i've been into hot rods and kustoms all my life, rock crawling is relatively new to me. my bronco is my late model vehicle, my other rides are all old cars and trucks.

Welcome to the forum Ray! You have some really sweet rigs there. I am glad you only wheel the Bronco....

Bronco looks great. Nice that you were able to make your own doubler for the T cases. Did you by any chance follow BillaVista's write up on how he did his, or did you just do it from scratch? I had a 69 Bronc that I built up and ran for a few years. Had a tricked out engine, big lift, big tires, single case, lockers, tilt fiberglass one piece hood, half doors, full cage, etc....wish I still had it sometimes...Pretty much got tired of freezing in the winter as it only had canvas ....

Looking forward to wheeling with you sometime. There are some good folks in the Springs, so I hope that you can hook up with them ..

i don't remember BV's buildup, but no doubt i checked it out while building mine, i think i looked at all of the aftermarket and homebrew doublers out there. the main reason i made my own was cost, second was trying to cram all that gear in my short wheelbase, IIRC it only ended up 3" longer than stock.

you're not far off from the origin of my name! don't worry, your kids are safe around me, though they look at me with that look kids have, reserved for weird guys like me.:erm:

thanks for the welcome, everybody, i look forward to hitting the trails with you.

and yeah, you can just call me Ray. :D

heres a crappy pic from when i bought it 3 years ago, or is it 4 now? and an in progress pic. the windshield frame was rusted into pieces, the cowl was hanging by rust, if you opened any door or hood the whole body moved and the roof was a vital structural element. i didn't much mind though, the plan from the beginning was to make it presentable, but never too nice to wheel.

the van is a 66. a somewhat rare falcon club wagon with a factory automatic.

good eye on the chevy's chop, it's about 3". originally a sedan, turned hardtop. and a brief rundown on the rest of the body mods: the headlights are 55 oldsmobile, tailights are 49 ford, wheel openings have been raised a few inches, wheels are Fenton Hawks from the mid 60's, sits on a simple airbag suspension.

thanks again everybody for the welcome.
