I think i have a pretty good idea as to what needs to be done, the only thing im not sure of are the points of measure, i.e. from where on the truck can i take a measurement so that it will be the same on both sides. ive searched but only found this thread. http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ghlight=bedbob (http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144069&highlight=bedbob) At one time there was another thread that had some detail to it, but ill be damned if i can find it. any tips or trick's would also be very much appreciated.

-Thanks
.

There is a huge source of information on this site on this thread in the Toyota make and models link. Just scroll down to Toyota Bed Bob Tech Information.

http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?1995-Toyota-Information/page2

Use the forward edge of your taillights as the main 'level' (control) line and measure everything else off of that. Hardest part is welding the thin metal back together in such a manner that it doesn't warp. Taking your time is key.

A trick I have used is to get the bed rail level, then use a plumb bob for your vertical line on the taillight. Spray over the line with some primer and you have your 'control' to make your other measurements from.

Well so far, so good! Got it off, and started to get it tacked back on in five hours. We did it a little different than I've ever seen. i left an extra 1'' on the tail gate side and then overlapped the bottom and tucked the sides in between the two panels on the front half. im going to drill holes into the outer layers then fill weld onto the bottom and sides as well as lap weld the seams. I think this will be super strong, we'll see what happenshttp://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif. i'll add some pic's of the tuck and fill welds tomorrow. still debating whether or not to clearance the quarter panels. Thank Brody for the link there is a wealth of knowage there!!!

Throw this into both the build threads and the same link where I posted the bed bod tech if you get a chance. I can do it later if you run into grief.

Nothing like that "well, I'm totally committed now and better make it work" feeling, is there? Sometimes that is really the only way to get a project done...

BTW, you will love the bed bob. One of the best things I did on my rig. Only down side for me is that I used to use the bumper scraping as a 'safety sound'. Now when I hear that, it will be just before I roll over backwards.

Not to tell someone how to do something, but you will have a better finished product and easier time welding if you clean off all of the metal around the ares...probably already know this, but thin sheet metal is hard enough to weld to begin with...

Not going to in 5 hours though, 5 days maybe but not 5 hours.

Right, resize glass, gas tank, interior panels, relocate gas filler, headliner, etc. - not going to happen!

Yeah Aaron...however cool this would be to do on the 60, just look at what would need to be done. Chris only listed a little bit. I do know people who would tackle this, but they are professional body shop people with a huge number of years of experience. I have seen some of their projects and even with a shop, the right tools and vast experience, some of their projects have lasted a couple for months start to finish...Remember how long it took Christo Slee to do the LC80 pickup? Yeah....looked like it came from the factory that way when he was done, but there were 4 guys working on it at various times and on a daily basis...

There is a murder who bobbed his 60 up in Canada. Search for a guy named like baxter650 or something like that on mud, it's really clean

Mace (Mud Mod) has done one too - calls his truck "Bob" now. I've seen enough of them to know how much I'd like it.

Sean is about the only person I know on this site who has the skill to pull this off. You might want to talk to him some time just for grins...

Well, whatcu be needing? Post it up...you are the most well liked person on the forum, so if someone has some stuff you may not have to buy it. They can consider it a donation...Heck, I may have what you need. Nobody is gonna know unless you post it...

You got any arthroscopy skills Pete? :lmao:

It looks like I'll be needing a couple shoulders done before I can't turn a steering wheel.

well, I now know why im not a body man, zap...zap...zap...zap...zap...zap, grind, repeat . any way got most of it welded back up today still have some fine grinding to do. it's not going to get mudded or painted till i get my 35's and have to trim the finders. here are the pic's of the over laps and plug welds.

Well, I have set a broken bones and done a lot of suturing on both myself and other people, so we could give it a whack. No guarantees, of course....I also have extensive experience resetting dislocated shoulders, again on both myself and other people..That should be good enough, right?

That bed bob is looking really good! Nothing like stitch welding some thin metal to get the idea really quickly that you aren't a body man. Every time I have to do that, I say that to myself...Quite an art form. Sean (1freaky1) is VERY good at it. Someone needs to badger him for pictures of the 56 Ford that he has chopped the top on and done a complete hand formed sheet metal custom dash and center console on...

Well done, much better than the bob i saw up at winter park this season on an Xterra. The guy basically just cut out the back windows of his truck and moved the rear window the back seat....however he attached it using riveted sheet metal, and bondo. I lol'd

Thanks every one! To be honest the flat light really covers up the flaws, but this is what it should look like up close after the final body work is done and painted.

Go to the Toyota Bed Bob thread link and/or the Build Thread and click "Start a New Thread" or Reply to Thread, just like you do for any of your regular responses. It isn't any different, really. Rather than retyping all of your text, highlight the text, and click 'Ctrl c'. That copies the text. Then, in the thread that you want to put the text, in the new empty box, click on the box to select it, then hit 'Ctrl v' which will paste the test.

Sometimes, but not all of the time (don't ask why) your highlighted pictures will easily copy too. If they don't you will have to manually load them again.

You can do this for every thread that you have here. I hope this answers your questions. Having pictures of your bed bob in both sections would be a very nice addition as you did such a nice job on it. Post if you have any problems with it or want me to do it for you. No problem.

Nobody has issues with questions of any kind on this site....

It looks really good to see how far you have come on this project. You did the right thing with plug welding it back together for sure, makes it a much stronger piece.

Yeah Pete I do need to do some updates on the 57's pics but been waiting till I get a few of my new old parts ready to install like the '64 Galaxy gauge cluster and steering column, But I will do it here soon after I get the new axles installed under the ranger.
