i believe the 351's are actually considered 5.8l, and the chevy 350 is a 5.7. and my source also calls the 390 a 6.4l, and the 400 a 6.6l

Welcome to the family, lovin them old fords you got, if you ever decide to let go of that 79 give me a call. Also if you are planning a 6" lift on the ranger why go so small on tires, you could go up to 37s with that lift.
I am building the new axles for my ranger D44 & 9" with 4.88sand putting 35s, Larry is running 37s on his ranger but don't remember what lift he has.

Ouch!!! how did you do that?

I was down to sticking an aluminum dash in it...only thing I had left to do...3k on the engine, 6k on the tranny and t case, about 3k on the diffs..and swerved to avoid 3 deer that bolted in front of me. I lost the ass end, had it, lost it, had it then stuck the front into a ditch. It went right over, end for end, crushing the body, top and topper. I had about a body sized area left I could crawl out of . These shots are after I managed to get it off the top and onto it's side, but before I finally got it rubber side down.

Truck was totaled. I bought it back from the insurance on a salvage title, bought a messed up 69 Bronco and then spent the rest of that summer doing a frame off on the Bronco and swapping all the new stuff from the F150 into it.

I really, really liked that truck, too. It was a bad day driving, for sure. It was also the last rig that I have ever owned without a full roll cage...

Wow, just wow. That is to bad to hear, but glad ya made it out. I've never rolled a rig yet, and after hearing that it really doesn't sound to fun, and has got me considering cages for the 79 and 88. I see why you haven't owned anything without a cage after that. I really like the small broncos. i have one on the drive me an my ad took apart when i was 7, still has yet to be put back together fortunately.

Hopefully you will never roll one. I've never rolled one either, but it's definitely nowhere on my list of "to-dos"

Same here, I'm probably going to be putting a cage in my cruiser sometime, just kinda thinking about when and how much its gonna cost.

Yeah, i agree. it cost to much money to roll things, let alone the risk of life. What do you want to make you cage out of? sch40? or sch80?

DOM (expensive) or HREW (cheaper) will do you for a good stout cage. You may be able to do some research on any of the Ford sites I posted in the Make and Model links, specifically the FSB (Full Size Bronco) link and find a pre made cage. A cage that will fit a full size Bronco, at least the front half, would work in the F150 as the cabs are the same. This would probably need to be welded up, but if you don't do welding, then anyone of a number of people here, including me and Sean, can do this for you.

As far as schedule 40 or 80 pipe, neither bends very well which is why they sell the pre bent fittings for them. This tuff is stout, with schedule 80 being 3/8" or more thick. It does, however, work really well for some cheap and nearly indestructible sliders. 80 is a bit overkill, though.

Yeah, i i don't mean to put 80 on there, i never thought about checking out a fullsize bronco cage for a 150. might save a lot of time instead of having to custom fab everything. I am fiarly good with a mig running flux core or solid wire. The only other welding on pipe i have done is with a tig, and i was alright but idk how much i would truly trust it. I can only run stick flat horizontal and overhead. and i have never tried it on pipe. That would be strong enough yeah? I plan on making some sliders of 2x3 tube steal 3/16's walls and then fish plating my frame to help prevent any tweaks from landing on them.

dude i know wat u mean. i learned every thing from my dad, grandpa, uncle and self tought and from school. so im freety good at wat i do but i dont do wires unless its a sound systems

Fordguy77
December 3rd, 2009, 08:09 PM
Damn!!! most my problems are wire related normally. like fords wonderful idea for automatic 4x4 in my ranger. it no longer works. and i believe the cause is the control mod, which sucks cause i haven't found any good ones in the JY an its a $600 from ford. And i know the switch and shift motor are good. so its either some wires or the control mod.

agreed, i am thinking about switching it to a regular transfer case and to manual hubs, but its a lil more pricey than just buying the part from ford. its only used for commuting to and from work, and a round town for gas mileage. So 4x4 is rarely needed, but idk
