Hi everyone, My name is Adam and Ive joined this forum to meet friends to go wheeling with. Ive been a member of some other forums and it seems like no one acually did anything, they would just talk about it all the time. Im excited to see trips being planned, in particular the fall colors trip Im planning on attending this sunday. I live in Englewood, and I drive a K5 with a 4" lift, 35" mudders, 355 700r4 recently rebuilt and still a pain in my a**:D Ive lived in colorado since 91' and dont plan on leaving. I love the snow and im pretty handy with a wrench. I will attempt to attach some pics:confused:

Welcome! Where the heck did you bury your rig? and what peak are you on top of in the big pic? (It looks familiar)

Very nice K5!!! That was on the top of my list for rigs until I really looked hard at the Suburban. Yes I drive a Subaru right now... But it's modified and I get it dirty often.

Looking forward to meeting you!!

I am willing to bet that is Dakan Mountain Road before it got 'gentrified' for the masses. It is the same spot where Jim (SROR flopped his rig) and is now no longer there...

Welcome to the site! We have more runs planned this weekend, quite a few folks have weekdays off and are ALWAYS looking for people to go with, I just did the first planned trail run post for November, and we are trying to get people to post up some runs for October. A couple of us just did the Ellis Jeep Trail, too.

If you have something that you feel like doing, please post it up. People will show up.

Welcome to Front Range Adam! Thanks for the pics and observation of the good folks here that prefer wheeling over talking about it.

Buried at slaughterhouse last year during the runoff, I got caught on my hitch at the edge of the hole and the mud was more like sand and the snow was melting, I had water up to my steering wheel at one point. Long story short a stock jeep w/ a 9000 lb winch and a snatch block pulled me out after being stuck 8 hours.
The peak is Mt Yale 2 weeks ago at 141?? ft near buena vista

Oh me? Haha yeah my Forester goes quite well. 2 inch lift, full skids, no sways. The weak point of it is the 5 speed manual transmission. I rarely have clearance issues, but I cannot tackle steep hills if they are rough (need a running start).

Even had a good time making a "motivational poster" after this particularly muddy run:

Good to see another K5 in the gang! If you need chevy parts or build advice, talk to even11, gm4x4lover, or myself.
Smash plans on getting a K5 soon; good to see that another member has come to their senses :D.

Longs Peak near Buena Vista???

I am way too familiar with every mud hole at Slaughterhouse. I seen to have been stuck in just about all of them in one season or another.

Aaron-you wouldn't have any trouble with Longs. 13 mile trail round trip with the hardest part being the Boulder Field at the end. More of a grind than anything getting to the top. I have had to do the Boulder Field to get to the Keyhole Route, which was my first winter climb on Longs.

I have yet to do the hike without about 50-60 pounds or more of climbing stuff on my back, summer or winter. I have done about 4 technical routes on the Diamond Face in the summer time, and about 6 in the winter and have never actually gotten to the 'top' of Long's Peak. Kind of funny when you think about it. Probably why I was never a 'big mountain' climber. Once the technical difficulties are over, I lose interest...

Yeah I am more worried about the Keyhole than anything. :o I also seem to be in the the " to fit for this group.. not fit enough for that group" build right now. I want to do a few others first and work my way up.. I would also really like it if Jessica came.

I have to apologize the pic was not of Longs Peak it was at Mt Yale. I have recently been talking with my cousin about hiking Longs and got mixed up.
The mud hole at slaughterhouse was acually not on the trail, it was on the road between the loop, kind of embarrising, I was just driving home at the end of the weekend after camping

Do Longs soon...good temperature for it, too.

Look in my photo album sometime. There are at least 4 shots of us in there stuck in holes in Slaughterhouse. Two of them LaDawn, my SO, said something like "Isn't there a big hole..." bang! just before we ended up nose down and very stuck...One picture actually shows me stuck right between two of the holes, also very stuck...Used to be a fun place before they closed the mud holes and graded the road...

Post 'em up and we will try to answer them. GM4x4lover(Nick) is very knowledgeable) as are quite a few other folks (Colomil and TeeHee come to mind right off the bat, too) when it comes to Chevys. I know a little bit myself...

Yale was challenging, super steep and a long hike.
