Well, Dash was feeling rather prissy after I told him what I did with my 4x4 friends last weekend. It was a trail he would've peed his oil everywhere just looking at. So, we decided we should go to the spa today in hopes that it would raise his self esteem. We were to meetup with Subacool, but he got a bit lost so didn't make it. Well, that didn't help Dash's self esteem. I mean, what does it mean if an Outback won't even hang out with you in the dirt? I knew I was gonna really have to go all out to make him feel better.

We started out the day like this

But we soon got to work

We rinsed off a bit in a huge section of standing water.
Wanted to let some of that mud sit, so we decided to attempt Kingston Peak.
We knew we wouldn't be able to make it to the top (most likely too steep), but it was a Monday so we knew there wouldn't be traffic so we could turn around mid trail if need be.

Side note: it was so hazy up here because of the big fires in the western half of the state.

Dash really started to feel like a lion hunting in his native habitat.

http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/pp278/coloradosmash81/mudbath%20offroad%20august%2031/IMG_2929.jpg

Well we got as far as we could, the trail from here looked like this.
I was holding my camera at the horizontal, I hope it shows the steepness.
Much of this trail required some good wheel placement as well, so I didn't want to carry much momentum.

Even with the haze it was a great spot to hang out. The dogs, Dash and I decided to just chill a bit and enjoy the view. And of course what builds your ego better than posing for photos? http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/new_multi.gif

Since we were just hanging out I wanted to try out the timer and see if I couldn't get a picture with me in it. Well that was all great until my husky/malamute mix Kodi went all girly and got jealous that he wasn't getting as much attention as Dash. (I swear all my boys are *** sometimes) He successfully thwarted the first photo attempt:

And slyly inserted himself into the second:

Check this guy out! He was huge and quite bossy.

Had to have a conversation with Kodi about not attempting to eat the loud fuzzy thing. He finally agreed, but you can tell he's still thinking about it.

Luke on the other hand has settled into a sunny spot and is practicing his favorite sport.

Handy thing about a Forester, you can turn around in the middle of a skinny mountainside trail.

Again, good wheel placement is important. Unfortunately towards the bottom there was a really rocky part and I didn't place the right front wheel correctly on the way down. I got a rattle now from that area going over bumps that I need to find. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/shake.gif

Back down the mountain a bit there was a nice open area to stop.

Back down further I was feeling artsy:

Another quick dip in the mud for good measure and we headed home. Wanted to make it home before dark. The smoke made for a cool sunset.

Got home with no trouble and before dark, but threw my lights on for safety just in case. Don't think they did much. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

Karla got home about 20 minutes after I did (she had to work). She walks in and says, "I hate you!!" I go outside to help her get her stuff and she had done this: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/lol.gif

Haha yep I've had a TON more fun once I got it through my head that it was a Subaru and was therefore limited as to what it could do. Also, making the decision to save up to buy a more capable 4x4 really helped. Now that I've accepted my limitations, it's much less frustrating!
