Josh - your Jeep is something else -- I don't think there was anything you encountered today that even came close to given you a problem, even Moab Hill. Quite impressive Jeep you have!

so which josh were we talking about because there was two josh's with cherokees today

Great ride, great meeting all the new to me folks.

Five of us came back to Denver after the end of Long Hollow via Dakan rd, that was a more of the same type with a few cool rocks and an excellent view of the valley when you come out.

Unfortunately SOMEBODY forgot to charge their camera battery, normally I take lots of pics, had to conserve this go round.

Here is a set of Josh doing the hard line on Moab hill. This was a great one for him since the last time he was here he got stopped on the easier section. Then with stock gears and only a front locker. This time with his D44s, lockers front and rear, and 4.56 gears. He is doing a great job building this thing up.

Those cheap magnetic antennas fall off. I have the Wally CB $34 fits in my ashtray but spent some money on a better antenna. The CB is fine as long as you are close. Liine of sight is good for well over a mile but when you get out of sight in the trees and around corners if fades fast.

I was looking for you all around 2 pm when I was up Illinois at that time. I was scanning but had no response. There was dozens of ATV's all over the place at that time. They were like flies on you know what. Unreal. Guess my timing was bad.

Looks like you all had a great time as usual.

Although I took the doors off early again (I don't learn too good....)we had a gas, even if we were a little chilly.. Great putting faces to names, great meeting all the new folks.

Essentially a great time, great day, great people! Trail was nice and I saw areas that I never really spent much time in simply due to the lack of rock climbing there. New stuff is always good....

He already decided to alter the cool front bumper he had...emphasis on had...well, still does, actually. It is just different...

It is a very nice looking and clean rig....I heard some other folks saying the same thing, too..

What I like about the site, too...All the different rigs. Watching people do the same obstacle in so many different rigs with so many different styles is a very good learning experience.

We have some REALLY GOOD drivers here, too, so I hope everyone who is new to this sport is watching just what other people are doing (no matter what they happen to be driving) and learning from it. Ditto goes for watching anyone who spots for other people. Some of the folks here (and you can tell who the good ones are as everyone else defers to them) are also really good, if not exceptional..

I was kinda wonderin the same thing there Cowboy. Ive never taken my truck up anything like that. Mostly downed logs and old loggin/wagon trails. And the once in a while dive into the forest to break trail so we could get our 90 cord of wood for the winter for two houses back home.

Fun times guys! I totally enjoy lookin at all the phots and videos. Im really impressed with alot of your rigs. They look better in action rather than just a snap shot in the driveway. Glad ya'll had a fun and safe event.

May 12th, 2009, 06:29 AM
i dont think roland or i would have had much of a issue going up moab hill, roland might have needed a bit of stacked rocks to clear the driveshaft due to his smaller tires, i might have come real close on mine. But the weight i have up front would have given me much grip to pull myself up onto the hill.

If you went up where the wall was we would have stacked rocks and you would have had to enter at an angle (like I had to). but I am sure with enough spotting you could make it

Brody
May 12th, 2009, 06:39 AM
You and Roland have gotta get some sliders on! You both would've gotten up the hill, but you might have been able to ever open your doors again....and however funny it would be to see you crawl in and out of your window, I would rather pass on that and not see you have that kinda damage...

BTW...the trail was fun, but extremely casual, with only a few really good viewpoints. It was fun driving almost from Woodland Park to Denver on something besides Rampart Range Road, but I am not sure I would go back to this particular trail unless I wanted to do a winter snow run...It was just a little too easy...

I have been here a couple times just to mess around its close and quick but much agreed on the way too easy. i really would like to see the max ability of my Jeep and i definatly dont want to be alone to do it and i dont really enjoy mud as much as the others so it was mainly the moab hill that i had a real blast on. dont get me wrong it was a great time meeting everyone and seeing all the rigs but i would like to see the rougher side of all the rigs too

Don't worry rougher trails will be wheeled. I still really enjoyed seeing what was around there, I will prob go back.

This ride was in a great area, I love exploring new to me territory. There is a great loop to be made from the Castle Rock side. Would be a pretty good aspen tree ride in the fall. Dakan road from Castle Rock side in to Fern Gulch, down to Illinois Gulch, back out Long Hollow to S. Rampart Range Rd, then take Rampart Range Rd to 503 ...

Well, heck, just follow the link to see it on Google Maps:
