I actually stopped at the Smart dealership and sat in a car. They were trying to sell them to us. A year ago there was a huge wait list. Not much going on there now!

Honestly, you'd be surprised how good those Smarts do in a crash. Its all about transferance of force and guiding it around the passenger compartment. Here is a video of it taking a crash compared to another larger small car:

That is the older European model that they have since updated to meet the US crash standards, so its even better now. I've seen more intrusion into the passenger compartment with vehicles 4 times the size. Despite the look of catasprophy in the end, its protects the user very well.

oh, and thats a cool little vintage toy race car. I bet its super fun to tear around in.
