I am new to the forum, I currently drive a 2000 landcruiser and would also like to find an FJ60 for offroad and for its cool looks. Used to be a Montero person until I roll over my 2 door 1990 V6 montero. I like the FJ60 due to the old school round headlights and simplicity of the truck (no power anything...less to go wrong)

Welcome to Front Range 4x4 fuzzyco3 (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/member.php?u=340)!

You gotta love the 60 series! yeah, I'm biased owning a 62. I bit less simple with the EFI but I did swap in the 60 round eyes and a 5 speed so it's more like a 60 now.

You might want to contact Jim (2badfjs) because he's selling his SOA 60, already been roll tested (and approved) so it's a great trail rig!

I read the articles about making the front of the FJ62 look like an FJ60. Very interesting, and it has made me wonder if an EFI engine would be a good thing. Currently I am looking at a couple of local FJ60s on craiglist.

Welcome, I notice that you are in Indiana. Do you get out this way to wheel much? If not what kind of places do you have there?

IMHO EFI is better off-road than a carb but know plenty of 60 owners who've never had any issues. The 88 FJ62 had an option of no power windows, mirrors, locks, etc which is what I have. The problem is that if you get the EFI you get the auto tranny.

Indiana bad lands are pretty cool and sand dunes. I have a friend with 35 wooded acres that come in handy for just mudding around. The bad lands have a website that you can check out. http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/
But no, I have not venture out of here, but I would like too once I get an FJ60 and fix it up.

Can't imagine the auto tranny on the FJ62 being that bad. Do you still have the push bottom H4. Does it work pretty good?

It's not that bad as long as it's in good shape but after 250,000 miles mine seized after a week in Moab. Very expensive to repair.
