I've been asked about this from the top of the main forum page:

"The Front Range 4x4 forums have 1,403 discussions with 12,493 messages. We have 100 active members with 6 members (or bots) online now. Unlike most 4x4 forums we delete inactive members since we prefer an active group of wheelers rather than large "member" numbers." (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/online.php)

The question has been "what are these bots" mentioned.

The answer lies in the bottom of the page where it shows who's online and looks something like this:

"Most users online simultaneously was 47 on May 21st, 2008 at 09:55 PM.
Chris (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/member.php?u=1) , MSNBot, Google, Yahoo! Slurp"

Get it? The only user is myself but MSN, Google and Yahoo! "robots" known as "bots" are indexing the pages for their search results. All forum such as ours display these statistics unless the admin has them turned off.

Just another "truth in forum information" brought to you by the Admin who believes forum numbers can be misleading if you take everything at face value. ;)

Nice to know! I always sort of wondered but figured it wasn't terribly significant. I feel so lonely now though...

 If I was real ambitious, which I'm not, I could set up a chat room where you could talk to bots.

I get confused and have to reference the 'who's on line' to see if I am really there or not....

I identify with that. ;)

Another tidbit: when viewing the who's online you might see it listed as 3 members and 6 guests and notice the 3 members names and then just 1 bot, that's because the bot is actually three bots.

I think Chris covered it well. It's how all the various search engines gather web pages for their databases.

Be happy for the bots. If not for Mr. Google bot I would not have found this place. That might go for other people on here.

Oh also "Geckodude18, you haven't posted for a month or so, how about letting everyone know you're still around. "

I am still around. Just been running around a lot without a computer.

No doubt about the value of the bots! :)

Glad to know you're still around too, hope the friendly reminder such as you mentioned aren't too annoying. ;)
