Today Jeff and I went up to Left Hand Canyon to do some wheeling. When we got to the second kiosk we decided to go left which puts you on Castle Gulch. We got about a mile in and decided to take a spur that went up and it was a bad idea IMO. It was very narrow with trees everywhere and it lead to a dead end. I was trying to fit between two trees and the jeep flexed right into a tree and POP! I will have to call bestop on monday and see if they offer the quarter glass separate. If not I may either have to find someone to make the glass for me or look into a soft top.

That sux. Sorry to hear. I know you broke glass on China Wall as well. Good luck finding a solution.

Pictures never do any of this stuff justice. I know this isn't a trail run report, but I'm going to post pictures here.

It was a fun day today (minus the glass). We went out with the mindset of doing some exploring. We went up (and back down on the way out) Big Momma Hill. Like Kory said, we went to Castle Gulch to check it out. Also did Upper Carnage (pretty fun little spur). The spur we took on Castle Gulch was not a good idea. Extremely narrow with a very loose edge. At one point (before the dead end), I went off the side of the trail. Not a good situation and a big drop off. Was able to strap to Kory and he tugged/pulled me back onto the trail. What is hard to see in the picture is that the tree on the left hangs way over and onto the trail. Was trying to avoid it and the edge was much softer than I expected.

After we realized it was a dead end, there was enough room for Kory to turn around (he was leading), but not me. Had to back down quite a bit of it before my neck hurt enough and found a spot where i could pull up and off the trail a little to get turned around. Yes, I was off trail, but i was trying not to go rolling 400 feet down a hill. Few spots I had to back down were extremely tight and very tough in reverse. Was hard to get at the right angles without going off the edge. Can't tell in the pictures, but the hill I backed onto was very steep.

Either way, it was a fun day. :) Here's to hoping that Kory's glass is serviceable! Honestly, I can't believe my soft top held up to the abuse today...

Glad you got out of there without a flop or a roll.

Being there is a shooting ban on Left Hand it was quiet there today and quite nice. Not having to deal with the idiot shooters makes this trail quite fun IMO.

Me too! :lmao:

Wheels were coming off the ground just trying to turn around. I couldn't believe how soft the ground was on that spur. Lots of dirt/rocks were falling down the "hill" going both directions. It was fun though!

Sounds like a blast, except for the glass. Hope it's an easy and painless fix! Great pix!

Sorry to hear about the glass! Good to hear that you had a nice time!

After a similar situation somewhere near T33A, I know the pictures do not do it justice...

...easy and painless fix!
Will be, just topper companies think their glass is worth gold, I would suggest calling glass company before buying one from Bestop, at least shop around. When my Leer topper front pass thru slider glass broke, Leer wanted $350 for the fix, I used a peice of plexi glass I had instead. At somepoint I will need a new topper, saved the $350 for then :lmao:

could you buy/use Plexiglass??

Good question. Not sure where to even start with it though.

I called Bestop. They sold their manufacturing and sales of their hard tops to Keystone Restyling Products about two years ago. I called them and they can get the glass. It will cost me $42 + shipping so I am very happy with that price. The only one small negative is it will take up to 3 weeks for them to get it.

If not too late, you might give John (clutch211) a call or pm.
He works at Safelite Autoglass and could probably get a deal or help with install?

Haha I know that spur! I went up that way by myself one day (bad idea, I know looking for an old mining site). And it was just like you said: extremely narrow with a very loose edge. If you weren't worried enough about the loose edge, you become worried when you see the shell of a grand cherokee that rolled down the hill from the spur, and was warped around a tree about 50 yards over the edge. Many of the trees in the area have winch scars around them from folks trying to recover the rig, but the cherokee was literally fused to the tree, headlights facing one another. Looked like the inside was stripped. I got the heck out of there. Too scared to try turning around, I backed down that hill!

Was it two trees, so close together it didn't look like you could squeeze an ATV through that did it to your window?
