I know these must rattle badly and aren't really the way to carry a spare but would appreciate any personal experience. I'd like to use something like this on occasion to get the spare from under the truck. shipped under $90 doesn't seem too bad IF they're any good at all.

I am sure you could have one made too, maybe for less than $90. Seems pretty simple.

They are good enough and they work well enough. Unless you get an anti rattle pin, they will make a bit of noise due to the built in slop of the sleeving arrangement on the receiver. An anti rattle pin or strapping to keep the side to side sway down would be a good idea.

Watch the junction of the 2x2 at the bottom where most of the force occurs. Many companies that make these do not add any gusset there and you will get stress cracks and eventual breakage. Not a bad price for $90 and a simple gusset would be easy to add. This picture doesn't look like it has one.

If you get one, put a couple layers of duct tape on the end before you put it in the hitch. It will tighten things up and will keep it from moving around and making noise.

Not with one of those, just a hitch mounted rack.

Ditto. I haven't used one of those, but my hitch bike rack rattles like crazy.

Had one on a Ford Bronco and the F150 I had until I made enough alterations to it to justify finally making real bumpers. Duct tape works. Worst part is stopping the rattles, especially off road.
