Default Some Pike and San Isabel forest roads closed

Some Pike and San Isabel forest roads closed because of lack of study

"Forest Road 332 A, which will be partially closed following a U.S. District Court settlement that declared 500 miles of roads in the U.S. Forest Service's Pike and San Isabel National Forests were wrongly cut through endangered species' habitats and game ranges, is pictured on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Several forest roads have been closed as a result of officials in the Pike and San Isabel forests failing to hold public meetings and implement environmental assessments before building these roads."

Many if not all of those roads were in place before the requirement to do the studies.

I came across this the other day, I looked again but couldn't find the links. I do know it would include Eagle Rock/Saran Wrap, Mt. Rosa, and others along Gold Camp Rd. as well as most of the Rainbow Falls area. I'll post the links if I can find them again, but from what I understand, the forest service has some time to provide necessary info to keep the trails open. And the plaintiffs biggest concern was for the Mexican spotted owl, and the preble mouse habitats. They claim these roads were opened to ATV's/OHV's without the proper studies being done, and erosion/damage preventative measures taken. I have been all over down there, some trails go through the old Haymen burn area, and granted I wasn't looking at the trail through an environmentalists' eye, but I dont recall seeing anything that out of the ordinary from any other trail I've been on. If anything, these trails were in better shape than most I've been on that were decimated by our floods in 2013.

I'll keep looking for that info, one of the links was to the actual settlement, and there were pics of MVUM's with the proposed closures highlighted on it.

I'd be interested in this when you find the info. It seems to me that Saran Wrap and Eagle Rock must be "older" than the time frame that is cited, so perhaps they will still be accessible. Living in the Springs these two area's are quick "go to" trails right out the back door. It would really suck to have them shut down.

I looked last night for over an hour and couldn't find it again, I will look again tonight. All the links showed up on a Facebook post that I clicked on and all the info was there, I searched every which way through there and it was nowhere to be found, but the settlement is public record and if the person that posted it found it, then It's out there somewhere. I ran saran wrap and part of eagle rock this year as well as most of the trails in the rainbow falls area. There is so many trails down there that I used many of them to make a fun out of the way route back home more than once. So much to explore down there. A couple times I just went down there at night and played around going from trail to trail and yes it would be a damn shame to lose them. I'll see what I can find tonight.

    Found em.

    Here's a couple news articles:

    http://gazette.com/some-pike-and-san...rticle/1564647

    http://www.krdo.com/news/forest-serv...wsuit/36540644

And here's the actual settlement. You will see there is A LOT of roads on there INCLUDING eagle rock/saran wrap, 379, Mt. Rosa, everything in that area. And then looks to be a whole lot of roads in the Rampart area. I couldn't find the pics of the MVUM's with the trails highlighted, but even just from the list of roads, you get the idea.

Agreed. Hopefully the FS gets their poop in a group so we don't lose all those trails.
