You'll wake up a new man! I have heard some amazing stories from friends and co-workers who have done it. One man was out running two weeks after surg.
Best of luck and good juju to you. Post up if you need any help with anything!
Only thing that will happen is the best that can happen. I dreaded my 2nd hip replacement and it was a breeze. Was back work in 16 days!! I have no doubt you're going to be glad you did it. Modern medicine is pretty incredible.
There's always that risk, but do what they say, take the blood thinners (my first hip I had to give myself injections in the stomach, 3 months later they had a pill, go figure) and just pay attention to yourself and you'll be like an 18 ur old again just like me...........ok maybe I'm not quite THAT spry, but you'll definitely be better!!!
Dang Chad! Watching you hike into the ghost town, I would have never guessed.
I understand they do great things these days for backs! I hope to do a run with you next season.
Twice my age? Not unless you've got 80 tapping you on the shoulder!!
LOL!! When you can't hardly get out of bed......
I guess I'll update this after returning from the pre-op appt this morning. I misunderstood part of the process, I was accurate that they go in from the abdomen and place a titanium block where the disc is supposed to be. We do remember the surgeon saying the block would be fastened with screws but missed that the screws and attachment gear goes in through my back. One more incision, yuk.
The good news is I'll be wheeling come Spring, bad news it will be a bit unpleasant leading up the Spring.
Reminder to you young folks - go easy on your back while you think of you're invincible and avoid this when you age.
Yowza.
I had a L5S1 Laminectomy, in 2005 at 30 years old, for a sever central hernia. I have smaller than usual spinal canals which means I have little to no room to accomodate a bulge. I was back to work 10 days after surgery and was great until recently. Now I feel like I did before surgery 11 years ago.
I'm hoping I don;t have to go under the knife again but if it has the results the last surgery did maybe I do want that.
Best of luck to you. Here's to a speedy recovery.

Thanks Mark, I'm no doctor but my experience goes two ways.
1. Putting it off as I have allowed for advances in technique which I'll benefit from
2. I have permanent nerve damage which is a detriment.
I can say, without a doubt, that a laminectomy or discectomy is more desireable than fusion. Good luck to you!
The consoling factor of lumbar issues is most of us have it to some degree so there are plenty of people to empathise with me. Since I live in an old folks (over 55) community if I start feeling bad for myself I walk around and talk to neighbors walking the halls with their walkers, canes, limps, etc and I feel better!
