    Default Ironclads, T33

CR started this three-day camping/wheeling run, but I think he and Liz and "Rusty" and others are still up there.

Anyway, I went up there today with Kenny (Redcreeper) and Dan from RS. This turned into a shakedown run for Kenny's recently acquired '81 Jeep Scrambler. After airing down at the old schoolhouse, we headed to Ironclads. We got a hold of CR on the CB, then he came down to Bunce when he heard Kenny was having steering problems.

Turned out to be a sheared-off front panhard rod bolt. Fortunately, CR had a bolt that fit.

Once the Jeep was fixed, we headed up Ironclads.

Mmmm.....Scrambler......If only I had the money.
If I were to do it all over again, I would probably try to pick up one of those instead of the Rubicon.

Ironclads doesn't take long, so next we headed down to T33. Last week, when I was up there in the 40, we stopped at the last right turn because the trail still had some fairly deep snowdrifts for as far as we could see. This week, virtually all of the snow was gone, so we got all the way to the end.

T33 is a fun trail. It's fairly mild at first, then you hit a series of fun obstacles. After the last right turn, it's a rocky, narrow, twisty trail, particularly the last couple of hundred yards.

The next three photos show the trickiest obstacle, at least for those of us who don't have 37-inch or larger tires. Kenny, with 37s on this Scramble, was able to go over the first big rocks and avoid getting near the tree on the passenger side. Dan and I had to squeeze next to the tree. Unfortunately, the passenger rear quarterpanel on his 80 clipped the tree, denting it and popping out his taillight.

Here's what that obstacle looked like last week (from the opposite direction), when snow still covered most of the rocks. It was actually a little easier with the snow.

Not like I have seen much, but that is the first coil-sprung CJ-8 I have ever seen...Mikey likey!

I've run the T-33 trail twice. I'm starting to think it is a must-do for the historical value.

It's a well-set-up rig. Had a few bugs, but walked over stuff I bounced over. Great flex, too. Maybe Kenny will check in and give some more details.

That, but also it's a fun trail and has some challenge; it's a little more challenging for longer vehicles. I think I've run it three times now in the FJC and once in the 40 and it's always a blast. Of course, I'm close to it, so it's a convenient trail for me, along with MSV/Coney.

Thanks Rob, was fun running with ya again. The link the bolt broke on goes from the frame to the top of the axle. After talking to my uncle they break often. It looked like it was going for a while now. When you looked at the break you could see have of it had rust on it. Good thing it happend there and not on the highway. Yikes!!!

Info in the Scrambler.... We got it a little over a month ago and on the first outing or test ride i ended up saveing a guy on Left Hand not even knowing if the winch worked so we named it Woodstock because of the adventure we had saving this guy from rolling down the side of the mountain. The build sheet is pretty long so i will just hit some points. It has a Y Link system up front from TNT customs and leafs in the rear. It was there test or mock up vehickle. Ramped 726 i think on a 32 degree ramp. Dont remember the exact number but does flex. Has a Ford 302 with a C6 behind it. As Rob said it has 37s but may go to 35s since i have a good set in the garage and see how it does. For a shake down i did find stuff wrong that will need to be addressed before the next run. Like the OBA system that got toasted when airing up my tires. But that is why it is a project. So far I really like what it can do. Felt good to get behind the seat of a Jeep again after so many years. Been working on another one for way to long. So as far as the only coil sprung Mikey has seen keep looking. I will have my 4 linked scrambler hopefully here by year end. Driving a auto is different, just hit the go pedal and your off. I told the guys i was getting worried that it was not shifting when going down the trail. I finally figured it out, it did shift but the 488s had it wound up in 4L. Never drivin anything with such a low gear. My 85 CJ7 would walk, this thing crawls. was awsome.

Rob can you email me some of those PICS. would like one for the wall. tanedaart@aol.com

Thanks again Rob, CR, and Dan for making this a fun time. Thanks CR for saving my but up there with the bag of bolts. Another reason to not go alone. Now to get some rest for work tomorrow.....

Kenny, I posted all my pics here: http://s457.photobucket.com/albums/q...y%2030%202010/.

You should be able to download what you want.

I'm guessing you and Dan didn't take any pics.

    Why I oughta...

No problem. I didn't take that many myself. It was a fairly long day of wheeling. Maybe you could show Lynette how to use that camera.

Yeah, we need to get more of you wide bodies on the trail (Ash? Winky? Roland?) to widen the trail a bit.
