    Default Dangerous Drives Utah

I just caught a blip about a Dangerous Drives Utah episode on the Speed Channel. Anybody else hear anything about it? I think it is going to be on this week.

Just looked on their site, and it will air on the 24th - here's the description -

A team of adventurers treks across inhospitable deserts from Arches National Park in Utah to the to the dried out lake bed of the Sevier Lake, once the floor of a prehistoric inland sea that later became the Great Salt Lake.

I don't get it. Wouldn't Arches to Sevier lake be on I-70?

I'm gonna program this on TiVo.

Right. Have you seen the drivers on I-70?

I caught the last half of it tonight. Fun. But they sure did fret a lot about that "scary, dangerous" shelf road. It didn't look that narrow (certainly not Webster Pass narrow), and it looked like it had a good-size berm on the downhill side. But I guess you gotten heighten the drama and danger for TV.

I don't watch much TV, but did Tivo this and watched it tonight. Like Rob says, it seemed sensationalized for TV. While there were certainly some dangerous spots, there was much more snow driving and they only got the winches out a few times. Guess I was waiting for something more exciting.

This was the winter snowstorm that caused most to cancel their Moab trips over the holiday break (including me!).

Not what I expected, but it was good to see some Utah wheeling - even if it was from the couch. When I get over my Lackofunds disease I'll be on the road to Moab.

No Kidding. Save the Drama for your Momma!! My wife and I started laughing and then were bugged by all of the unnessessary narative drama. The jeeps were cool and well, moab is well, awesome.
If they would have just stuck with good video and less "tech" info that would have been neat. I mean who do you think their audience is? I was bugged about how they spent what seemed to be 10 minutes on what a winch is. I think the people who are into 4 wheeling propably already know.

Have you found a cure for that yet?

I just got done watching the first half (not sure I will watch the rest) I'll tell you it doesn't bode well for AEV with all the dangerous and added drama they threw in there. If that is extreme to them, then maybe their build ups aren't quite up to par with what the rest of the off-road community considers extreme.

dang it, I wanted to watch it and totally FORGOT but Gatemonkey found it for me on the DVR, thank you!

In light of everyone's comments I will be interested in comparing their 'danger drives' to mine.

    What did you think, Scrubicon?

I don't think I have ever seen a TV show that accurately depicts any of the activities I have done. Almost anything with Whitewater in it is completely sensationalized and wheeling stuff seems to be the same. I'm sure the same is true for just about any topic though, be it Ice Road Truckers or Ax Men or Dangerous Catch or any number of things. They always seem to pick and choose, and then overblow the danger level. I think Dirty Jobs might be the only exception to this rule though, since they tend to do a pretty good job of depicting how truly disgusting some of the places he goes are. Wish there were more shows like that. I'll still watch this when/if they add it to Hulu though.
