Thread: Just looking on Trail Damage

    Hidden Valley Road.

And this trail looks like a lot of fun!!

I have NO IDEA if the suburban can do it or not. Definitely not something I'd try on my own with my long wheel base. But man, I really would like to give it a shot when the snow clears!

I was thinking if we can get a few trucks out there it'd be fun, atleast one with a winch out front. That way if somebody gets stuck we can pull them out!

But yeah, looks like a hoot. I don't have the experience, confidence or gear yet to lead a run, so hopefully someone else better equipped will consider spear heading this in the spring.

Haven't done that one yet. Wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Done 6/7's before so it should be doable.

IIRC they flattened out a bunch of the Whop-de-doos. I think some of the Denver crowd did that last year on the 4 trails run and found it to be rather different

Sounds like fun....could be a nice camping trip in the summer. Just camp at Rampart Range with the dirt bike and do some 4wheeling as well.

I most agree it does look very fun... I'll have to see about that one seeing as I am yet still a rookie.. I think that would be a good run for the Blazer...

Yep...a real disappointment, too, unless you were looking for a smooth drive on a beautifully maintained county road. Absolutely nothing like it used to be, plus the fact that Dakan Mountain Road has now not only been graded to the smoothness of a baby's butt, but oiled, too. This is coupled with the fact that, due to the amount of private property in the area, you cannot "stand, stop or park" (much less camp) anywhere along Dakan. You could do these roads with a Smart Car..

The only good thing abou them was that they provided a nice way to get back to Denver on back roads. Unless it is a trail report from last year, any of the information you look at is not going to be current and won't reflect the current state of the roads.

I mentioned all this in someone elses thread when they talked about doing them and also mentioned it in the Illinois Gulch Trail report...Pisses me off when the FS does this crap...

I haven't done that one in a several years. It's not too long. It was a little mogully and tippy in spots, but should be doable in a stock suburban. It sounds like it may have gotten worse. Who knows, it may be bulldozed by now! I think a trip to this area is warranted this year.

We did it back in May 08 and then the area where the whoop-de-doos were had been plowed on one side (below picture) actually made it more fun.

The following year, Joe aka BlueThunder said that the whole thing had been plowed.

That is a fact. This section of the road, in fact the whole road, is now a very nice flat road. I imagine that you could find a small bump or two if you tried really hard.

If you do decide to do this road, despite what people have been saying, don't come back and complain that it is too smooth and there are
no obstacles. You have heard this from a couple of sources now. Your rig, your gas, your time. Have fun. Like I said, you can do the whole thing in a stock Smart Car. It was one of the bigger disappointments on a trail run last year.

I think that 5 of us went back this way from Illinois Gulch. All of us were extremely disappointed.
