    Default idleing 22-RE issue

Having a small issue with my 4runner. When i first turn the key over it'll start right up and idle fine for about 5 sec then it'll die out. Hold the gas and warm it up and then it'll stay running but still won't idle very well. I have the adjustment screw pretty far out but i'm sure thats not the root problem, any thoughts?

Sounds like the Idle Air Control is junked up. It is easy to clean with carb cleaner and takes about 35 minutes to do. Here are a couple of links I posted information in:

Remember to throw come caulk or sealer over the two screws and to take the screws out very carefully with the best size screwdriver you can find. For some reason the screws are pretty crappy and you can strip the heads very easily. They are also held in with a bit of thread locker.

as always pete thank you. I think i have a spare one sitting out in the barn that i can try. I had a hunch it might be this, just wanted to get a second opinion before i go through the hassle of removing it.

That is about the only easy thing that I can think of right off the bat that causes idling problems. The screws are an issue as they are are really crap.

When I had my 90 4Runner with the 22re, I busted off the clip for what I would call the cold start sensor. It was on the front of the motor and believe it was a coolant temp sensor. It ran like crap in the cold until it warmed up. No idea what the "formal" Toyota name is. Just a thought...

was it the green or brown sensor? the green is the coolant temp sensor which is new. The brown one i don't know what it is but is old.
