    Default MY YJ Build Thread

So i took a trip last fall break and on the way home we stopped in Moab. I convinced my mom to rent a Wrangler for a day. Took it on some easier trails and i was addicted! I came home started looking for Wrangler's on craiglslist that was in my teenagers budget. Talked a guy down to a real good price and bought it! Just decided to start a thread on its past and future mods...

This is how i bought her... Semi-tastefull modding by the PO. But the brand new 4.0 engine alone made it a good buy...

    First wheelin' trip..

When driving home from the trail, one of the tires blew out on the highway. So new tires...And some other little things such as tire carrier, shackles the the PO gave me...

Took off the chrome tube bumpers finally!!

Then came my first "big" mod. A new rear axle. Knew a guy with a Super35 laying in his back yard and he gave me an amazing deal i couldn't pass up...
    First trip with the locker..

Then i noticed a gash in one of my tires. And since they dont make them anymore i decided to get what i can for them now and upgrade!

    35x12.5x15 BFG KM2s...

Began the conversion today. I got the axles out, ready to take to my friends to have the perches/shock mounts welded on. Everything went pretty well until the end. I couldn't get the bolts on 2 of the leaf springs (the main eyes), so i still have 2 leafs halfway off. Any idea?? should i just cut them off (are these grade 8 or what?)? Could i buy new ones at jeep dealer? Part number?

I also have some stock leaf springs that are pretty rusty. Hopefully they work good.

Also, trying to decide if i should paint the axles or not. if i do, what should i use? Use Primer?

Got everything off and got the axles ready to go. Got everything cut off that was on the bottom of the tube. Here they are..

Don't understand about the spring bolts. Can you take a picture if this isn't fixed now?

Primer on the axles, then a finish coat...or two or three. Get something that you can get all the time as you will want to touch them up..

Spring bolts: grade 8 is better than grade 5. Either will work. Both stock and after market kits use either, though grade 8 appears more in the after market stuff. I have used both.

Just some new pictures i thought I would share Not much progress on the build though. Really slowed down since i just started college. I did get the anti-wrap bar burned on.

This hole came out of no where!! I dont know i i didnt see it, it pretty much swallowed my 35" tire
