    Default Land Rover on 49s

Here is something I ran across looking for tire information for Randy. The Rover guys will love this and may have seen it before. It is a Rover on portal axles running 49" Swampers. I included his link:

    and a picture:

No it is a roof top tent (RTT) and I believe it is a magnolia

Nice. Cool rig for sure, though a bit top heavy for my tastes. Looks like one of those Icelandic trucks made for driving on snow, so its probably not doing much in the way of Rock Crawling and the like. Gotta love a portal axle though, and all the clearance you get.

There is someone in town here who has portals on a 4Runner, but is running much smaller tires. One of those people who doesn't turn wrenches, but has the $$ to get all the bells and whistles done. Looks pretty good, but also looks like it goes to the mall more than anything else, too.

This is a rig out of England, so I would imagine it sees more deserts and mud bogs more than rocks.

Does anyone know of a local source for portals? What do they cost per axle and what is the common gear ratio?
I would love to some under my little jeep, more clearance but low center of gravity!

No Aaron! I'm talking about like a salvage yard that specializes in Volvo's, Unimogs, Swedish military vehicles ect...

You know me better than that,LOL. I'm looking for something I could rebuild or steal the whole vehicle for a cheap deal and take the axles.
