Actually, two kayaks came off and floated down the river. They recovered one unharmed, but the other one got pretty torn up and was a write off.
That river is pretty stout difficulty wise, and high volume to boot. Its continuous high speed class IV/V for miles and miles. Come out of your boat on there, and you are in for a long, cold, swim. Better trust your buddies on that one. You can see in that picture that the dude was wearing a Dry Suit, so that indicates the severity of the run.
They are super lucky the car didn't go any further in the river, as it wouldn't have been recovered for miles if it had made it 10 feet further out. Here is some video footage of the run...
