    Default Mt. Antero 7-29-2009

Took the 4Runner out today down to Bunea Vista. Early morning run for me, out the door by 6, and on the trail before 9. which turned out to be a good thing because the normal 3 o'clock showers came around 1 which is just when i was back down airing up. I wound up running into the landrover rally, about 6 rigs. Had a sweet D-90 going up with them. No major incidents up and down, would have loved to spend the entire day and probably most of another exploring all the off-shoots around that area. fantastic area can't wait to go back!

The mandatory shot of the collegiate peaks, at 8 am the chalk cliffs were brilliant white.

Quick shot of Antero driving to the trail

stopping at the junction, where antero is to the left and baldwin lake is to the right

    this way to antero

trail breaks above tree line and starts to get pretty steep

    looking up

    more trails for another day

    pretty cool D90

    Rally rovers driving up

looking back not wanting to leave

When i got back into woodland park i took Mt. Herman up and over to monument as i frequently do. and i was greeted to destroyed trees and THIS...HOLY HAIL!

There was quite a mess on the road from all the aspen trees getting whacked pretty hard. seams to have been fairly localized to the top of mt. herman by the time i got back down into monument we had just had some good rain.

yeah thats where i guessed your got turned around. bummer. however funny thing about that spot when i got there i was going slow and then i started spinning my rear tires. I got a little frustrated. i mean it was steep but shouldn't be that bad for my 4runner. So i backed up and got some more speed and made it over. after that i continued driving on for another mile or so still wondering what was going on there. and then i started thinking..."did i lock my DS hub?" got out to check NOPE. i'd been doing the whole trail in 2lo. D'OH!!:o so i locked it up and no more issues.

You seem to be having this issue more lately...

That is a great area. So many neat trails and places to fish and camp in Chaffee County.

Nice pictures! Glad to see that you are getting out!

This trail is on our list and I think that we are going to do it later on this year. We were actually on our way to do this as we were having no luck finding any Yotas in the area, when we ran into the 8 Toyotas going in to do Carnage/OCG.
