This will be our 2nd attempt at scheduling our fall cleanup run.
    ***

    www.FrontRange4x4.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2023-10-7&e=1184&c=1

    ***
The TLDR synopsis: Closed Toed Shoes and Gloves are a must. Come dressed to work. Please arrive promptly at 9:00am for a safety meeting and don’t forget your lunch.
    ***

Here's our second clean up run of 2023. These runs are a great opportunity to get to know other members of the group a bit more than you would in a normal trail run. Lots of stops and opportunities to chat while picking up trash.

We will have a safety meeting with USFS staff at 9:00am (including volunteer waivers etc), so please be there ready to go at 9:00am or earlier. We will split into two groups - one group will run DC and one group will run BF.

A couple points from clean-up runs in the past:
Because this is a volunteer activity organized with the USFS, there are some basic safety precautions we have agreed to as part of our participation in the Adopt-a-Trail Program.

    1) Please make sure everyone is wearing close-toed shoes, gloves, and has some kind of eye protection handy (sunglasses are fine). For the type of work we are going to do, which is mostly picking up trash these are the really important ones. The main concern here is handling any broken glass or other sharp stuff we may find. Showing up with flipflops or barefoot would very likely raise some concerns at the safety meeting.

    2) Per the agreement we should also be prepared with Long Pants and Long Sleeves. I suspect this is included because these cleanups could involve dealing with downed trees, but it is unlikely we will encounter any of that on this run. I doubt anyone will have any issue if you want to wear a t-shirt, but long pants are encouraged.

    3) Please be prepared with water and food.

    4) The USFS will provide some trash bags, should have a few pairs of extra gloves and would provide hard hats if they are needed.

We generally have minimal trail maintenance to do - its mostly picking up trash and shooting debris. Gloves and closed toed shoes are a must from USFS's perspective - they have usually requested long pants and long sleeves but not necessarily enforced it for the kind of clean-up work we do, but it may be good insurance to have them with you just in case.

Bummer, I'm out of town this coming weekend as well. If this gets pushed out again, I'm available the 21st and 22nd this month, all other weekends were spoken for unfortunately. I've only been to three but it's always been a great time out on the trail with great people.

I've got a stock tacoma, would either of those trails give me problems? I would love to help out, just wanna make sure i'm not signing myself up for trouble. If it is too much for a stock taco, would I be able to hop in someone else's vehicle so I can at least bring a pair of hands?

    Here's the correct thread.

My Calendar APPEARS to be clear. Unless my wife makes me aware of something I already forgot I committed to I'll be there.

No preference on trail, I've done them both at this point.

May recruit a spare pair of hands.

Hey gang, it's been a while. I hurt my back way worse than I thought, and was overly confident when I voted in the clean up day poll. Advanced degenerative disk disease + protruding disk = no wheeling (or bending over to pick up trash for that matter). Not great for someone about to turn 32...anyway, I will not be able to make it at all this fall, I wish you all the best and a better turnout for this Saturday! If you're on the fence about going, you should do it!

Man, sorry to hear that. I too have a severe back issue. Birth defect and herniated disc, found at 20, nearly 40 now. Back then they told me to postpone surgery as long as possible. It is starting to feel like I may be reaching that time.

Sorry to hear that you are in the throes of it right now. For me it sometimes feels like I am being electrocuted up my spine with 277v, while laying down trying not to move. Thankfully my pain comes in episodes and isn't too persistent.

I hope you are doing okay.

It's looking like a good, workable turnout. A definite improvement compared to what we were looking at last week. I'm going to bring my wife and kids as well so that will be a few extra hands. I'll double check the list in the morning at about 7:30-8am, so if there are any last minute changes to the list we'll be sure to account for everyone. See you all in the morning at 9am.
