    Default Wanted: YJ leaf spring

Hi all....in need of a salvaged YJ rear leaf spring. Myself and a few friends with CJs are getting together for a week of wheeling in the BV area. On today's shakedown run, somebody broke a YJ leaf spring and we are hoping to find an easy solution to keep him wheeling for the upcoming week. Please respond or shoot PM if you can help. Thanks!

I’m 99% certain I did not keep a spare spring from my swaps.

It will be five days or so before I could confirm.

If schedules worked I could pull one of mine to loan to him.

No worries Jim....I know you are out of town and not sure if you lifted springs would work. The jeep has a YJ spring conversion where OEM YJ springs provide a lift.

Some follow up...jim might appreciate this...another broken YJ spring on Holy Cross.....Scott initially broke a non-main leaf in his spring (when I initially posted), so some leafs were shuffled around to make up for it. But then the main leaf finally broke clean through, and without military wrap, its a bit of a hassle to get the rig off the trail. Turned out a D-ring shackle fit over the leafs pretty well to act as a bit of a side clamp - we wired tired it forward and back to hold it in place to keep the leafs from separating laterally (the broken section of the leaf was overlapped to help support a bit of weight), Then we ratchet strapped the axle to some frame cross-member behind to hold the axle from going forward, and used the vehicles winch around the axle to pull and hold it forward....

this sort of worked until the ratchet strap gave up....so then we just the let the front shackle flex all the way forward until its up travel was limited against the frame rail, and used the winch line to hold it it place. It was pretty far forward on the driver side with that set-up, so it was crab walking a lot, but it rolled all the way off the trail and back to BV on blacktop at 35mph. two things come to mind....1) the Pro comp YJ springs are junk (this is at least the 3rd one scott has broken - albeit there are other aspects of his spring set-up that lead to extra stress on the springs), and 2) military wrap is still an absolute must in my mind for those that run leaf springs.

    Ouch!

Yes, it hits too close to home.

Glad you were able to get it sorted.
