    Default AZ to CO!

    Hello all!
My name is Dustin and my wife is Megan. We are both from Gilbert AZ. Moved to Elizabeth CO in April 2020 to evacuate the heat and all the jerks! CO was always where we spent our vacation time so we decided to just move here. It has been the best choice we ever made! The one and only thing about AZ I do miss is the Jeeping. The trails there are something else.
Favorite AZ trails were Charouleau Gap, Mud Springs, Log Corral, Terminators 1 and 2, Die Hard, Payette Draw, Turtle Creek, Elvis, Box Canyon, Coke Ovens and many many more.

In my time in AZ, we were both active members of the AZVJC (Arizona Virtual Jeep Club) and set up many trail runs and gatherings. I was also part of the annual club run on The Backway to Crown King where we had 100-150 Jeeps on this single trail. In this we were a group of 30-35 leave each hour starting at 5am and going till 11am. I was in charge of the 6am group for this. I miss greatly being a part of a club like this. I do not Faceboock or any social media so this hunt for a forum based club has been limited.

Currently my Jeep illness includes a 1947 Willys CJ2A, 1998 ZJ (rock crawler),1999 XJ (wifes daily driver), 2004 WJ (snow/overlanding), 2010 Ram Power Wagon (my daily/also identifies as a Jeep).

    Cheers!!

I am wide open this weekend! Available wheeling modes of transport currently is the WJ or Wagon. ZJ needs a driveshaft rebuild, XJ is a 2 door 2wd and the Willys is an ongoing project.
What trail would you have in mind? I think my wife did Mosquito a couple weeks ago.

Tom and I are planning to run Middle Fork Swan river and Radical hill (and possibly SOB hill also) on Thursday this week. Sunday plans aren’t decided yet so I’m up for suggestions 🤙🏼

What were temps like in AZ? Don't wheel in July/Aug? Head to higher elevation trails? AC in all vehicles (I see windows down in your pic).

The temps are terrible for 9-10 months of the year. Then there is 2 months of fantastic weather before the oven comes back on. I wheeled for a few years with no AC for the love of the sport! But after awhile I had to get it working again. For the hotter months we night wheel. Go do all these difficult trails in the dark. I recall a Hackberry Mine night run where I nearly rolled due to lack of visibility so after that I practically turned the Jeep into an Xmas tree. Now I can see for miles in the dark!

Good to hear on Bills. I have used him once for the front shaft on my Wagon and still running strong. I dont know of anyone near BFE Elizabeth that does rebuilds well.
It could be the U Joints in the cardon. I just need to pop it out and look. Now that I am getting involved with real wheelers again I may have the motivation to do that sometime this week. Ill certainly need to organize a shake down run. Big Red hasn't moved in a couple of years so the dust is thick and perhaps the gas too! LOL.

Are wrenching parties a thing here in CO? I have a full 1600 sq/ft shop with most of the tools and an auto lift. Also ample parking. Might be something to set up as a meet n greet?

Welcome! AZ trails do set a high bar, but I don't think Colorado will disappoint!
