Re-spooled the winch line (this was last week - on a warm day - not today with 10" of snow)
Car was stationary. Jeep, in neutral with some slight parking brake applied, was pulled to the car. I applied Slick50 OneLube onto the cable.

I ran mine through the car wash on the way home from work . You were far more productive!
A respool and a wash aren't much but it's in line with the snowed in trails... This soon shall change.
Just trolling.
blew out a rear bearing on The Ranger so I replace both. Damn I hate being spoiled.
i. Sooooo use to having a nice lift & climate controlled garage, want easy doing it outside with jack stands and very limited use of a left arm...

Reset the bead on a tire that I busted on a run last Sunday. Rinsed off all the mud. Put everything away that was taken out of bins and tool box in the back.
Drove it, gingerly as the rear diff was complaining, to 4x4 Off Road at the north end of town for diagnosis / repair. It's out of my snails pace hands and resolution should be swift.
Maybe I'll get some snow bashing in this season?
No change. The guy with the C/L axle was out of town when I contacted him. He said he would text photos to me - but never did - and I left it there. I'm not set on changing gearing at this time.
Higher on the list might be a motor rebuild. It has always burned a bit of oil and fouls plugs leading to mis-fires. I took the jeep to the 4x4 shop yesterday (for the rear diff issue) and asked about motor rebuild while I was there. It's low on the list but higher than a re-gear.
In related news - the 4x4 shop called this morning. They are saying the issue, so far, is a failure in the double-cardan u-joints in the rear driveshaft. They're sending it out for repair and expect it back this week. They'll then do another test drive and evaluate the ring and pinion.
Tried to do TOTW, but it dumped snow this morning so the very top wasnt working for me.
I did get most of the way and actually HAD to bump up some obstacles with these 33's which is a good lesson for me. I also got to use the winch to pull myself back up onto the trail and turn around, as I was starting to slide sideways toward the end.
I may give it another go in the morning, we will see what the conditions look like. I may just go get Hells gate checked off my list.
Glad I came this week and not next week with EJS going on. I am sure itxs neat, but I am not fond of a proper crowd.
I am working in a few images for you all, but resizing and uploading is not working with my phone.
I will always be taken aback by Utah, it is about as beautiful as a place can be.
Picked up the jeep from 4X4 Offroad in north Fort Collins this afternoon. Where I was thinking the rear diff's pinion bearing had failed... the issue was not that. It was the rear driveshaft itself. The kind folks drove the jeep that I brought in and quickly turned around and didn't drive it any more as the noise/issue was 'bad' (I agree - I almost called a flatbed tow to get it to the shop). They inspected the driveshaft and said - it has problems. They brought it to a local driveshaft shop and in the end - new driveshaft. The new rear DS is slightly different in length - to match the jeep as it sits.
They did pull the diff cover and give a solid inspection to the guts and it passed their eyes. They did note the weeping of the pinion seal but said roll with it and monitor for change.
Curiously, in the "it never makes noise when you bring it to the mechanic" happened to me ten minutes after I left their shop. I started to hear a high frequency ticking (driveshaft rotation frequency, not tire rotation frequency, and not engine rotation as it made the same noise no matter engine turning or not) on the way back from their shop. I turned around and they jumped in for a test ride. It made the noise in the parking lot - enough to near but not too loud - but when I turned onto the street - it was quiet - dangit.
The gent did discuss sealed u-joints vs. greaseable u-joints. He commented that sealed u-joints, in addition to being stronger, also have tighter tolerances / improved service life. I'll give the sealed units a try as I've leaned towards the greaseable style (and have serviced them routinely).
For now, the jeep's ready for some trails!!

Drove across country and moved to Georgia! Ever since I've been here I've been throwing 2 codes consistently, P1607 which I think I've addressed and P0300 so that's my weekend project. I think they call it tinkerin' it down here haha. I haven't found any solid reliable Jeep people down here yet, so if possible I'd like to still be active on here until I can get all the codes squared away in case I need the extreme wealth of knowledge from y'all.
Had a great day on Hells Revenge and Fins.
I fell in with a great group from Sturgis. I was able to do Hells Gate, the first little hot tub, which was a blast, as well as the staircase.
We had a stock 2 door JK with us that did all of that too.
It was a great time.
I was going to go up to Devils Tower next week mid week Jim, but I could do a run with you.
Hmmm... I could do a mid-week. Start something in planning and let's see what pans out. Mon/Tue/Wed are available - not on Thu/Fri though.
