Default Weather and trail conditions quick look-up?

Any thoughts on starting a new Trail Forum that is solely for weather and trail conditions?

When I'm planning to hit a trail, I'll usually look at weather, live cameras in the area, and check here and trailsoffroad to see if anyone's posted recent conditions. However, I'm not so sure that people are as inclined to post a Trail Run Report simply to list a few details (like trail and weather conditions).

When I go out, especially in the winter, I generally try to make a post on conditions with relevant pictures when I come back in an effort to share information so others who may be interested can be better prepared if they're planning to hit the same trail soon.

My apologies if this topic has already been visited. I just thought I'd ask.

Do others have better ways of checking trail conditions before going out?

Is anyone else interested in, perhaps, having a dedicated forum just for weather/trail conditions for specific trails? An easy place to check out prior to hitting the trail to see if someone's run it recently and if not, perhaps they can post a request for trail conditions and maybe get an answer from someone who has recently run it?

    Thanks!

Exactly what I attempt to use trailsoffroad for. However, as you've stated, you don't always get up to date info there. I try to post if there is any difference from the last post to mine or if it's been a while since the last review.

For me though, part of the adventure is not knowing. I like to just get out there and explore! Most of the time, that means going with others when there is potential for snow. We went up to Cheyenne with a group of 7 of us two weekends ago. Trailsoffroad showed the roads open just fine. I got to break trail at the end up a hill in about 2-3' of snow. Then, I towed up a diesel Jeep, a 3.6 Jeep, a F150 Raptor, and an F150. Go go little 2.0L!

I'm usually down to go wheeling on weekends. Unfortunately, I probably won't be out for a couple months because I put 37s on and no lift so... a lot of rubbing if I flex at all. No rubbing on the road though!

Lastly, there is a section for trail reports which could be used. Honestly though, I think trailsoffroad is better because it has a wider audience. Still, absolutely post a report here too though!

Forum software-wise - this can readily be added.

    Thoughts from others?

Why not use the "Trail Resources" forum for this?

My thought was a deditacted page/forum for JUST weather and trail conditions. That way, if you're looking for the most up-to-date weather/trail conditions, you know where to look. AND it prevents us from spamming a pre-existing thread with otherwise useful information with a bunch of individual posts about weather.

But maybe it is superfluous. If most members aren't into winter/snow wheeling, I guess it really isn't that big a deal. There are places to get good info on seasonal closures, current weather conditions, etc.

In any case, thank you all for your input (and willingness to entertain the idea, Jim). That's what makes this site so great!

The way I see it there is already two forums that this information can be posted to, Trail Resources and Trail Run Reports, why make a third? If your looking to have a specific forum for "Snow Wheeling" then maybe I could see it but then does Jim add "Rock Crawling" "Overlanding" "Mudding" "General Wheeling" and others? I just don't see the need, especially considering the amount of traffic this site has. However the way I browse the site it wont make a difference to me. I always just click "New Posts" and see all the new posts in all the forums.
