Mosquito Pass, Lunch Leadville, Return Weston

I am considering this trip for August 13th, but if a backpacking trip gets cancelled the weekend before I am thinking the 6th. We would leave Rudy's BBQ, Hwy 24/31 in Colorado Springs at 7:30am and meet up again at 9:45am with the northern folks at South Park Ranger District in Fairplay.

As soon as I hear back from the backpacking leader if the trip is a go after his having surgery, I will post the trip in the Planned section with one date or the other.

In the meantime, respond if you are interested.

So far, one interested in this trip. I am still waiting for the leader of a backpacking trip to find out if he has mended enough after surgery to schedule either 1st or 2nd weekend in August. Stay tuned.

Only date (6th or 13th) was pending but the Mosquito trip was a def. Just yesterday I got my answer on the 6th and that trip is a go, so the Leadville trip will now be scheduled on the 13th. Details to be posted next week.

I just returned from backpacking in the Rollins Pass area and saw a brief from a member about getting a vrbo in Fairplay. I will not have time to confirm all the details until Monday. This will allow some ideas such as the vrbo to materialize. Personally, I would love to explore Leadville area more with a vrbo, but that would have to be a group decision, since I posted it as only lunch.

I think the Fairplay vrbo is a great idea as well if someone wants to take the lead on that and see what the interest is. I am not sure about that yet, as I just got back home.

I was up Mosquito pass 10 days ago via the west side since the east side was still blocked by snow drifts.

I won't be able to join on 8/13 but -- if you can -- I would highly recommend for you to combine Mosquito pass with Birdseye gulch on the way down to Leadville (or home). Birdseye Gulch is one of the most beautiful trails in terms of greenery and water crossings. It is marked in the book as difficulty red, but I would classify it more as a dark blue. No problem at all with my stock Rubicon. This will be on the way down for you guys, which should make it even easier. After the dry/rocky Mosquito trail, this is a really fun lush green trail.
