Default March Anniversary Run - The Gulches (3/28)

    March Anniversary Run
    Sat 3/28
    The Gulches (Metberry, Hackett, Longwater)

    Meeting Location:
    9am
    Metberry Trailhead https://www.google.com/maps/place/Me....2771169?hl=en

11 people voted for this Sat - hope all can make it. If the weather goes bad, Illinois Gulch/Lil Moab can be a fall back option.
Some may want to meet in Sedalia to caravan down. I'd suggest airing down when you get to Cedar Mt road as its usually pretty bumpy from there to trailhead.

    Sign-up is here: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...-28&redirect=1

Discussion on details and possible caravan meet-ups below...thanks!

What is the best route to get there coming from the north?

You could take 25 south to Castle Rock, then 85 (Santa Fe) west to Sedalia to meet any potential caravan (a bit faster than 25 to Santa Fe south to Sedalia). Otherwise, 25 to 24 in the Springs, west to Divide, then north to the gulches. Just my 2 cents.

Edit: Google Maps says 470 to 285:

If coming from metro area - I would use hwy67 through Deckers...

If coming from northwest - then maybe going via 285 to Pine and to Deckers is best:

It would be nice if someone from the FS or possibly Predator 4x4 could meet the group to give a definitive answer on where Longwater and Hackett actually end. The MVUM still show them stopping at the Park county line, though someone said last year that they called the FS and were told they were open to the river.

Ironically, while looking at the area maps, the guy below was on Metberry per his Google Map picture, which is open to the river per the MVUM. The river is not allowed, and he should have OHV stickers on his quad. Nothing like posting your own ignorance and/or defiance of the local laws.

Seems like a good idea....With the current 9am meet time, that would be a 7:30 depart from Sedalia....

She'll be missed :/ currently in the garage but I just inherited a cool old 77 J10 Honcho. I've never owned a vehicle under 100k miles and figured it was about time I got into a new vehicle, time will tell if it was a smart decision or not. The Grand is going to be for sale, now that I've just nearly rebuilt the whole damn thing, just because I don't really have room for 3 vehicles and don't want to insure all 3.

I can make that time, I'm somewhat familiar with Sedalia but I'm not sure of any good rendezvous point there, any suggestions?

Conoco station right on the main Hwy where you turn for Sedalia is where we usually meet! Man, I’ll have to leave my house by 5am to make that meeting time..... but wheelin’ the Gulches is always so much fun! I have not done Metberry or Longwater but I’ve done Hackett twice and it’s pretty special

Cool that works for me. May or may not be picking up some friends on the way.
Metberry gulch is fun, you can see a video of my grand cherokee struggling on it on the trailsoffroad page for it, or if that's paywalled I can link it. I'm a bit nervous for how much snow might be on it

Its also the last gas station you'll see on the way there - so fill up.

That would work for me too! I’m going to bring a gas can to bring along also because I remember being very empty by the time I got to a gas station both times I ran the gulches. I wish they had gas in Deckers!!!
