    Default Exhaust 4.0 jeep

    Hey folks!

who here has a Jeep 4.0 with an aftermarket exhaust? What would you do different if you were to do it again? I reaaaaaaaally don’t want to be too loud or sound like a fart can. From my research flowmaster is probably the go to, but for headers are there any decent “budget minded”? And recommendations for any local shop around Denver that can weld it up would be ideal as my gear is still back east.

    thanks!

I went with this muffler because I didn't want it to be loud and it was a direct bolt on. It ran slightly shorter than stock, but I needed to run my tailpipe up higher anyway so I did both at the same time. I'm happy with it and it's very quiet.

Your in Lakewood? Not super close, but I have used House of mufflers and brakes at I25 and Evans with good results.

yep, I don’t mind driving a bit for a decent muffler shop, fairly reasonably priced and knowledgeable? I’ll end up sort of redesigning a shorter tail pipe for more clearance. In reality I’d like to do a tummy tuck and get the whole system hugging the bottom of this but that may be saved for a time when I can get in there and re-route it all.

Be careful with tucking exhaust up. I did that with my XJ and it heats up the floorboard over cat and has burned my carpet. I tried adding an extra heat shield to no avail. I smell it burning every time I take it out. I am going back to exhaust shop to have them drop it back down when I get a chance. I used AA Performance exhaust off Broadway and Hampden for both my XJ and ZJ and they did great work other than tucking exhaust too high on XJ.

thanks for that info! Never would have though of it burning the carpet but makes total sense. I wonder if that gold heat tape would solve some of that issue? I’ve used it a good many times with great success.

I had BDM do my exhaust after I did my tummy tuck and long arms. It’s a deep tone. Not loud with the top on or off. I went from right after the two top cats all the way back it was right around $350 all said and done.
