Default Moab - Wheeling Nov. 24-26

Unfortunately my daughter's fall break didn't line up with this last Moab trip so we were not able to go. We were out there last year the days leading up to Thanksgiving and were thinking it would be a good time to think about going again this year. Weather will be a gamble, the holiday is a week later this year than last. Just throwing it out there to gauge interest level from other forum members in case the idea comes to fruition. Initial thought would be to head out on the 23rd and head back the 27th.

I've been kicking around the idea of heading out there after work on the 21st, thursday, and coming back on sunday the 24th. I can't commit yet, but it is very likely I'll be there those days and would love to run Sevenmile Rim on one of them.

I haven't run Fins, but wouldn't want to duplicate too much from earlier runs. Others could be 7 Mile, Boxcar Kamikaze, Hell Roaring Rim, Klondike Bluffs, Porcupine Rim, Hey Joe Canyon. None of these are extreme, but actual trails run will depend on who is in attendance and the weather.

Just did the same, no deposit and can cancel up until 4:00 on the 23rd.

After looking things over, l am thinking we could spend a day on 7 Mile with spurs, a day on Dome Plateau with spurs, and the better part of a day on Copper Ridge/Klondike Bluffs-Tower Arch? Could apossibly add Fallen Officer in to complete that day. If Paul is there, it would be a bit tough for him to run 7 Mile on Sunday and get back to Denver. I wouldn't get to Moab until mid to late afternoon on Saturday. Thoughts?

Tower Arch is a lot of fun. Ran it last year with Tom. A couple good ledges and a lot of sand. I'll look the others up later, not familiar with them.

I'd like to go if I can pull it off. Last time I've missed the popular Fins and Hell's Revenge and I really want to do either or both. But all of the trails mentioned sound great.

Its in the 1st Edition of Wells' book. Klondike is a nice trail with lots of slickrock that goes to the boundary of Arches - it also gets a fair number of mtbers. A short hike past the gate provides some great rock scenery out on a rock fin. There are also some nice dinosaur footprints along the road. After returning back down you can head north along the Copper spur...its long narrow sandy track, but eventually takes you up towards Copper ridge. More nice dino tracks and a cool rock ledgey climb up to the top of the ridge. I would recommend it, and its typically not all that busy compared to other areas - not sure why he left it out of later books. Nothing super challenging, kind of on the easier end of moderate.

Strike Ravine could be a harder option as well. I know open_circuit just ran it, but Fins would be fine with me as I haven’t been on that one. Just throwing out options.

Fins is worth running again. It only takes half a day at most, though.

We could look at Hell’s Revenge or Porcupine Rim (short) in the area as well.

I am very low probability of going now. I need to replace front upper control arms before I can go to Moab, but also have some other things popping up here that week. If I get the control arms replaced next weekend, I'll post an update.

Unfortunately I won't be able to go this time. Too close to Thanksgiving from a family point of view. Still want to go back to Moab sometime before high season next year.
