Just checked weather again...Looks like some chance of snow here in the front range on Thurs, so the drive out could be a bit interesting heading over the divide etc. Moab looks to be clear skies and dry, but a bit cooler than normal. As much as I would like to take Thurs off and get an extra day of wheeling, and possibly be a day in front of the snow, I am currently still planning to only wheel Fri, Sat, Sun.

Forecast showed lows in the 30s and highs in the 60s for the days we'll be in Moab this weekend. This is about 20F cooler than I expected (hoped for) in October. Should still be good wheeling as long as it stays dry, but it does change my packing list a bit. Everyone stay warm and safe on the trip.

I would be interested in stretching my legs. Also, when do we want to meet for this trail? I am driving from Denver to GJ Thursday night and will be heading to the trail head in fri morning which is a 3:40hr drive for me.

Should we meet in moab? 7 it 8am? Fwiw there is one limited gas station at the entrance to the park in needles. Old school pump and maybe no credit cards. Fill up in Moab.

    I vote 8am.

The last place to fuel up on the way out of Moab is this shell station. That could make a good meeting spot since it is away from the traffic in town and has a lot of parking

I updated my first post in the thread regarding fuel stops and distances for Elephant Hill.

I'll be bringing one or two 2.5 gallon gas jugs with me. I'll stop at the Outpost gas station on the way into the park. I should be fine to get back to Moab (should the station be closed on our way out / after 6p).

I like the old Needles Outpost...have camped there and bought a lot of ice and ice cream there in the summers and some gas as well. There is a part of me that thinks they don't take credit cards - I can't remember - maybe they have modernized over the last few years or I just remember incorrectly. I'd either check with them ahead of time on the credit cards or make sure you have some cash. I have 5 gal can that I can bring if people think it could be helpful - I have 25 gal across two fuel tanks on the cj so not figuring to need any additional fuel.

Regarding Elephant Hill meetup time and grouping...

In the other thread (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...720#post333720), Udi pointed out that groups on Elephant Hill are limited to 3 and must be separated by 30 minutes. So do we want to group up in advance (in Moab), or all go to the outpost together and figure out grouping up / separating at the park? Maybe it doesn't matter?

Keep in mind that everyone who is going should request a day use permit (https://www.nps.gov/cany/planyourvis...usepermits.htm) on Thursday. We also will need to enter Canyonlands, so bring your parks pass if you already have one.

I guess it depends on what everyone wants to do. For example I would be happy to join with people who want to follow the FunTreks book trail, hike the Joint Trail (we are slow hikers), and go to the confluence overlook. Some may prefer to hike less and wheel more, or they may have other trails in mind. I suspect that once we're all inside the park, grouping and spacing may be less important or enforceable...

We're going to be only 2 or 3 groups. Perhaps it's better to drive down together and decide there.

Haven't seen you follow up here yet. The plan for Thursday is to run Fins & Things first, then head over to Rainbow Terrace and catch Dellenbaugh Tunnel / Secret Spire as time permits. I imagine getting a start around 8:30 in Moab. I have to figure out logistics for getting to the meetup, as we are a group of 5, but the Jeep only holds 4.

Jim, you're staying at Up the Creek campground, right? That's on the southern end of town, but "in town"? I'd be interesting in meeting you on the southern end of town to minimize the back-and forth for dropping off our 5th passenger. Though if you wanted to meet us at our rental house (south of town by that Shell station), I could probably arrange a trade of some hot breakfast or coffee.

Yes. A block east of the City Market grocery store.

I can drive to you for an easy pickup - no need for BFast - happy to help / it's not far.

As for a group meeting spot for Fins, we could meet in town - the City Market grocery store perhaps (food and fuel available) or there's a parking lot on the left _just_ after the pay station for the Sand Flats entrance (toilets available). Meeting at the McDonald's parking lot is an option too - about across the street from City Market.

These are just a couple suggestions.

Hey guys...I am going to try and make it out to Moab on Wed night - or somewhere near there. I will join you on Thurs morning for Fins. I'll be keeping an eye on meet-up spot, but it might be best for me to meet you at the parking lot just inside the Sand Flats as I may need a good place to leave my truck until I can get to the campsite...looking forward to an extra day off work. cheers

I think it's just the two of us meeting in town. Nate is staying in Grand Junction? I might be confused on who is where. Sounds like the two of us are meeting at the rental house (I'll follow up with you on that), and James will find us at the Sand Flats parking area or pay station.

James, glad to hear you'll join us for Fins. Have a safe trip tomorrow.

Madi and I will also drive earlier than planned to beat the snow. We'll be leaving FC late tomorrow and will probably stop for the night at Glenwood Springs. We won't be able to get into Moab early enough to join you guys for FnT but if we can hook up for the later drives that would be great. Do you think that would be possible?
