Default Argentine Pass - Fri Aug 9

Alltrails and trailsoffroad indicate Argentine is nearly open. Reports from the last few days say Argentine is still not fully accessible due to snow, but McClellan sounds like it is passable. I'd like to go explore next Friday, by which point it may be possible to ascened Argentine fully.

I'd plan to meet in Georgetown around 9:30 or 10:00 (visitor center) and roll out shortly thereafter.

So how about a weekday run?

I could do a weekday run this Wednesday or Friday. To early to be sure for next Friday but it is likely I can make it.

I can't do this week. Next Friday is my wife's off Friday (9/80 / every other Friday), and she hasn't been up Argentine yet. Bonus for us, the kids are away at camp all week next week, so it's an ideal opportunity for us to see a trail on a weekday with limited obligations.

I'm also hopeful that the extra days between now and next Friday yield enough snow melt to make Argentine fully passable.

If you haven't researched this trail yet, Shane, look it up. It is one of the highest navigable passes in the US. The peak is over 13k feet. Amazing views on both Argentine and McClellan summits.

Wed of next week is my last available weekday...back to work at the high school next thurs. Always good to do the popular trails in a weekday.

That's too bad. I was hoping the run was early enough in the fall that you might still be off on summer break.

That may possibly work and I have not been up either of them.

Awesome. Glad to have you along. I guess you're recovered pretty well now, if you are considering a trail run?

Yes sir. I have driven the truck around town as it is easier to get in and out of. It is about time to get the Jeep out now, just need to park carefully to make sure it is not over a hole that will make it tougher to get in or out of.

I did this run on 7/20 and it was blocked after the first hard left uphill turn. Also, going down to the I-70 overlook, was blocked by snow at a bad location. It might be good to go down in a small group if you want to go to the overlook. McClellan was clear.

Trailsoffroad has an update today that says:

"The trail is confirmed open to the summits."

This was posted by one of their trail authors. I believe we'll be able to reach the summit of both peaks this Friday, as long as the weather cooperates.

Can we make sure I can talk to everyone on the CB? I can't talk due to my disability so I listen on the CB. But, this past weekend,
we had an unfortunate accident on the trail and I was on top of the hill and tail at the bottom. I could hear him speak but I tried to
mumble something on the CB and he didn't hear it. As I work through experiences, I learn new things you never think about.

I will be on CB, at least. We will also be sure to discuss keeping the folks in front and behind in sight when we have our driver's meeting. I don't intend to leave anyone on their own without their consent.

    It reinforces two rules:

    1) The person in front is responsible for the person following (no matter how many are present). When the following person isn't in sight (for whatever reason), the person in front waits a short bit and then travels back to check on the person following. This applies to each person in the group. CB's are but a convenience for status of the follower to the "ahead" person.

    2) At any intersection, nobody travels through it unless everyone knows which direction to travel (the group bunches up at the intersection and all go at once - or there's a pre-defined direction).

(I'm guilty of being too lax on #1)
