    Default Uh, oh... My brakes!

Wondering if any JK owners may offer advise (ever have this happen on their Jeeps).

Yesterday I got warning lights for both the ESP and brakes and they stayed on. I checked for leaks and brake fluid level is fine. I know I need to take this in to have it checked, but wondering if you think it may be safe for local (including I70) driving or if it might be too serious even for that.

I had my sms come on and stay on for awhile. I thoroughly cleaned the underside and after awhile it went off. A week or two.

I know there are sensors near each wheel that can come loose or get dirty and trip the sms. Don’t know when its real its cause or what one should do. So cannot give a response about safe to drive.

Might just need to bleed your brakes and top the reservoir off. I had that once.

This happened to me on my JK. Was just the wheel speed sensor. ($18)

Does the ABS come on or do the brakes get applied at all?

The OBD port will throw a code if it's anything major, have you scanned for codes?

Just about any part store will scan for you, even clear them if it's something minor.

I drove it for about 8 miles yesterday (no steep hills to speak of and less than 50 mph). The warning lights didn't come on at all. I'm wondering if the fact that the cap to the brake fluid was opened and then closed tight again may have solved the problem??? Just a guess. I have to run a few errands today. If it comes on again I'll take it in to have it scanned.

    Thanks!

Jackie, wheel sensors get dirty, wires break.
My brand new JKUR had to go in for warranty work.
Busted wire mid ship was causing the traction control to come on.....

You should be fine to drive it.
Lights on it reverts to no ABS/traction control.
