Default New to the group and new to wheeling

My love of camping and backpacking pushed me to get a vehicle that could get further out. So I bought an older Jeep Grand Cherokee and we've been having a blast taking it out on trails and hiking from some pretty cool spots! A couple of things have broke on it and it's been fun fixing everything myself. Being a YouTube taught mechanic has been a fun hobby all onto it self I hope to learn even more from the group.

    Welcome to the group!

The 5.2 is kinda rare, yes? My chiro guy I believe has the 5.2 and is getting versed in finding sources for 5.2 related spares.

    welcome to the group

Jim the 5.2 is common and was used for years. The 5.9L was the rare one, only put in GC in 1998.

Yeah the Limited (5.9) was only made in 98. Pretty rare.

Ah, thanks guys. I just recalled it was a larger motor - guess I needed to think larger yet!

And don't forget the 4.7v8 that was used after the 5.2 for a while as well - I actually really liked the 4.7 and thought it was better than the 5.2 (not that the 5.2 was bad). The 5.9 was a beast, but you paid for it as well.

Still haven't passed my emissions test. Ran seafoam, changed out the PCV valve, and just changed out the EGR. If I fail again it'll be the catalytic converter and O2 sensor next. Already throwing money at the problem.

Have you gotten this to pass emissions? What is failing?

Well let me start from the beginning.
I had just bought the Jeep outside of Denver and took it in to see if it would pass.
1st test fail: Only failed on NOx.
Changed out the PCV valve, since it was cheap. Noticed coolant was low, so I filled that up. Did an oil change. Ran it for about an hour right before taking it back (not turning off the car in the waiting line).
2nd test fail: Just NOx again.
I ran half a bottle of seafoam the vacuum line and the other half in the gas tank. I bought a new ECV valve and replaced it. Ran it through 2 tanks of gas and took it back. This time I was coming straight from work so I couldn't run it as well as I did before.
3rd test fail: NOx was lower but still failed. HC and CO2 went up and failed but barely.
So I don't know if the two gas tanks was enough to get all the seafoam out. When I replaced the ECV I snapped a vacuum line and duct taped it together. I want to replace those lines. I don't want to replace the Catalytic converter just yet because it's welded in and I would have to pay more than the jeep is worth to replace it. I'm outside of the 60 day window, so I need a temporary tag first. I hope to replace the vacuum line and run it hard to hopefully get more of the seafoam out. Then take it again. Anyone else have suggestions?

David, J&DGreens, told me that the emissions place, with a vehicle that fails several tests, can diagnose a vehicle for why it's failing. Perhaps check that route and have them give you some diagnostic assistance?

They handed me a pamphlet and told some places I could take it.
