    Default Forrest Fenn's Treasure

Planning out some trips for next year and one of them is going to be a hunt for Forrest Fenn's treasure. https://www.npr.org/2016/03/13/46985...-head-outdoors My wife and I have an idea where to search, like everyone else, so I've committed one day to it. Worst that happens is I spend a great day in the woods! Best case, I'm getting a Gladiator.

Read the poem, figure it out, never work again.

You'll bring a metal detector, yes? I should think that'd be a required tool.

Worst case is you never come back as happened to at least one searcher iirc. Sounds fun though. You will share with us if you find I assume.

No metal detector, I'm not going too far down the rabbit hole. Unless "metal detector" is a new strain, then it may come with. Treasure hunts make men crazy. When I saw the poem a few things clicked, especially the "blaze", so I have just one idea, and it's about 2 miles from where we plan on camping next year anyway, so it's worth a shot.

we've looked in the Taos area as well. I think Fenn himself said once that the thrill of the hunt is enough treasure for most people. and I'd agree...I think he has done a great thing for lots of folks. he's gotten them out in the woods with their friends and family exploring.

personally, I'd like to explore the Salida area as there's a lot of the clues to the poem that seem to stand out there. just haven't had the time.

    Has it been found???

"clues that led Hanson to move away from his search area benefiting someone else who discovered the treasure."

I doubt it's been found. Fenn wouldn't say if it was, as I've always believed that getting people outside to have fun looking for the treasure was part of his original plan. but the items would have been sold if it were found. the treasure isn't just a wad of cash you can spend. if you want the $4mil or whatever he said it's worth, you gotta find the right people to buy the artifacts and such that are in the box. sure there's some actual gold, but that still needs to be exchanged/sold to get the cash. I think those things would have popped up in auctions somewhere in the world. no Joe Schmo off the street who finds the box would know how to get $4mil out of it on his own. he'd have to contact someone who knows how to get that stuff into a high-zoot auction or whatever. that's just my opinion.

^ Agreed. I worked looking for it into a trip this past year and can tell you where it isn't, but we had a nice hike, didn't find treasure but found a beautiful lunch spot and plan to look again next year.
