    Default This weekend???

The weather looks like it's going to be pretty nice this weekend! Anyone interested in doing a (reasonably close to Denver area) run this Saturday or Sunday? I haven't run Pickle Gulch in a very long time. As I remember it, it is an easy/moderate trail. I can't lead it though! Every time I've run it, our group got lost a bit. (Not that there's anything wrong with that)!

I've run it a couple times this year. It has two or three tough sections, but is otherwise easy. That area is very confusing. Pickle Gulch over to Moon Gulch makes for a nice route.

I was thinking of playing around on China Wall and that area Saturday. Would also like to get over Mosquito but not sure of the condition after the last little storm. Possible to run Pickle and would be able to lead.

I'm tentatively thinking of running Hackett and Longwater with my GF, and both of our rigs Saturday. I think that area didn't get any of the snow from the recent storms.

Hackett sounds too difficult for me and my Jeep. It does not have a lift. But have a great time!

I have no interest in making the drive to China Wall. Right now, it looks like Sunday may be the better day for me. (Saturday may still be doable, I will just need to make some different transportation arrangements for my daughter since she altered her plans without checking with me first ).

I ran Hackett 2 weekends ago and its not bad at all; not as hard as it looks. The only "hard" part is the ledge at the bottom towards the river, and even that has a bypass.

I suspect Jackie's Rubicon could do Hackett. It looks pretty far from Denver, which might be a drawback. Google tells me it is over 2.5 hours from my house in the northern suburbs.

I'd like to get down and run some more southern trails (Hackett / Longwater?) sometime. Maybe next spring/summer?

The gulches are open year round and Jackie's rubicon would eat them up.

I'd do Pickle Gulch on Sunday.

Sounds like someone needs to put it on the calendar, then. Who wants to be in charge?

I can do that! Would you mind posting it in the calendar to include directions to the camp area you mentioned? (I can find basic directions to the trail, but might not be the spot you mentioned). I don't care who leads! Sounds like we have a few takers on this one. I'm looking forward to it! I might even be able to talk my daughter, Annika to come with me on to this one!

I'll go dig up Paul's calendar entry from the run we did earlier this year and copy the directions over. He already did a good job planning the meetup once this year, so I'll cheat and not do it again.

edit: Looks like Matt planned it last time, not Paul.

Look for the calendar post in a few minutes.

Posted. I combined some notes from the planning thread for May's run with the calendar entry text from May's run. Hopefully there is enough information now, and everyone understands where to go.

I'll be there. I'll bring my hand-held CB and a set of walkie-talkies (to share if needed). Also a portable air compressor. I haven't run this trail in a long time. I don't remember anything too difficult but I'm sure it's changed. All I do remember is that every time I ran it, it was funny as hell how we got lost!!!

Getting lost is fun, you get to see new things. Pickle Gulch is moderate, I'd put it between Devil's Canyon and Barbour Fork for difficulty. The first obstacle is the hardest one, and its just a rocky hill. There are no shelfs or cliffs, and it is beautiful drive the whole way. There's an old mine, some cabins, and at the end you can go to the Shaft House over Dakota Ridge. We took a stock f150 through it a couple of years ago without any problems.

I think the scree and rock hill is the hardest. This is the one you get to by going past the mine following the trail down into the woods and not crossing the creek.
