Default Old Guy Driving a Jeep

Thank you for allowing me to join the group. My name is Gerald and we recently relocated to Castle Rock from Missoula MT. We were originally from Eldorado County CA where we were about 45 minutes from the entrance to the Rubicon Trail. We were on the Rubicon or some other OHV trail in the Sierras every couple of weeks in the summer since the early 1980ís. We are excited to start exploring trails in Colorado and thought Front Range 4x4 would be a great resource. We do love technical terrain, but a mild scenic trail fills the ticket for relaxation, especially if it is in close proximity to a good trout stream. The only wheeling we've done since moving here was to attend the Labor Day Safari in Moab. Check one more off the trail bucketlist! We had a blast, the scenery was breath taking, and we met up with some old friends from NV. We only had one failure and that was on our friend's TJ. Climbing the final rock ledge, my friend decides just for kicks he'd try the hard line. He was doing well until the upper truss support tore completely off the rear axle. It didn't make a sound when it separated. Upon further inspection it appears that the welds were slowly tearing over long period of time. I was surprised it held so long as he had just made back to back runs thorough Dusy Ershim and Rubicon a few weeks back. We got lucky, it was a clean tear and we were able to use a winch, snatch block, and HiLift to recenter the frame on the axle. With some quick grinding and ready welding all was back to normal and the group rounded the bend to the Top Of The World.

Sorry for being so long winded, once I get talking about trail riding I can't stop.

Looking forward to meeting new folks and running new trails.

    Gerald

BTW: My son who is a Yotaholic tells me Old Guys Drive Jeeps...true?

Welcome! I'm an old guy, too, and from Montana. St. Ignatius, to be exact! I'm here in Denver for a couple years, for work, and the group was kind enough to let me join. This is a really great bunch of people, genuine outdoor lovers.

Thank you from one old guy to another. It's great to be in Colorado, but I must admit that I do miss seeing more animals than people in Montana.

You my friend are about as intelligent as I am based on your rig of choice, which BTW doesn't say too much because acquiring my LJ is pretty much the only intelligent thing I've done...

Thank you! - I am amazed that there are so many LJs in Colorado. It is a very rare site to see LJs in California and Montana. I guess I'll blend right in....
