    Default Adopt-a-Trail Clean-up: 9/15/2018

    Thread starter....

The BF crew had a pretty easy clean-up....All 6 jeeps made it in and out without any issues. Pretty quiet day on the trails - only a couple other vehicles and a couple motocross bikes. Thanks all for helping out!

Hardly any trash on the dc trail with the exception of an old door.

I personally had a great day thanks to my ride along: Ryan. He is a great coversationalist and all around enjoyable company. If you ever get a chance to ride together take it. You will not regret it.

Great day to be in the mountains. So much sun and fall color...

Most of the campsites were quite clean. Found this makeshift table top, which Jim said was left from a previous cleanup run for the FS to pickup (but obviously they never did). Jim strapped it to the top of his cage and took it down to the road made quick work of it with his chain saw to get it down to more manageable sized pieces.

    err, um, chain saw?

Nope - not while an unpaid volunteer of our U.S. Gubmint. I was off the clock when said chop action was enacted.

I was rather surprised the board/tabletop was left / not picked up by the FS last we visited. Campsites seemed un-trodden.

I pulled into the garage at 6:30 and out of the shower a lick later - ahhh.

It was a great day in the mountains.

Barb, my guest, enjoyed the colors and wide vistas that DC offers. Next visit, no guest, I'll happily visit BF!

I might have taken one photo - not a standard 100+ pix to process today. One carsonite busted to report - more later on it.

James, yes, the DC sign was stapled over the BF sign.

Piper and I had a great time, will try to post pictures tomorrow. We are camping at Barbour fork tonight. We tried going over devil's canyon to set up camp but we were greeted by hoards of teenagers starting a bon fire. One of them told us that there were 30 to 40 of them showing up. They were bringing in kegs, firewood, and loud music. Also they were blocking the trails with red straps tied to the trees. Piper and I decided to leave and went down to the police station to report it. Hopefully something is done tonight. We're both absolutely infuriated. All of the work you guys did on devil's is about to be undone...

Thanks so much. How illegal and stupid is all of that??? (Let me count the ways...) Would be kind of fun to head back out there and scare the crap out of them though!

The BF trail was basically clean so not too much to pick up as stated above, the trail offered a bit of fun as usual.

We did find a nicely constructed shack, not quite a trapper's shack, more of a squatter's shack. There was a small fire ring inside with two benches/beds along the back and one side wall (sorry, no picture of the inside). One has to wonder, if this "nice" of a place is basically just off the road, what is deeper in the woods?

What should be done with a structure - leave it as-is (and report it) or dismantle (and report it)?

James decided to report it to Brandt this round. If Brandt says to demolish in the future, we will do just that as it is a FS call.

There is one other large-ish pole teepee structure visible from the trail and a couple other more discreet lean-to's. Gonna ask Brant...

On BF there has been one decent teepee out there for several years - if it's the same.

I got a few pictures as well. It was a really nice day and it was fun meeting some new members. Thanks to all that came. DC was really clean, so not a lot of work to do. The strangest thing I found was a neat pile of shell casings mixed in with some nails and decking screws. All were piled next to a small hole dug right next to it off the beaten path. (???)
