Should I post this up on the banner...Start to see who commits to go? I am definitely good for wheeling on the 19-21 (Sun the 21st is probably a half day then drive home). I could possibly take two days off work and wheel the 18-21...but a bit hesitant to take 2 days of work as I usually save them to use them during ski season

    I'm going. If you're going - it's a planned run.

    I'm flexible as to dates.

I need to get looking at trails go give input on it.

With furious debate - looking at Wx temps, cooler temp sleeping bag cost, tent site cost, hotel cost... I went hotel. Motel 6 on the curve coming into Moab (Adventure Inn was sold out).

Next up is routing. I'm thinking of leaving early Thurs for an 8+ hour drive via the slower, more scenic two-lane instead of the 6+ hour interstate. Depending upon daylight I might take the more scenic river route down to Moab. If after dark, I'll do the typical highway route (longer distance, faster, shorter time).

sounds good - I have been trying to seal up an oil leak. I tracked it to the oil pump gaskets - so went to clean those up etc, and then found a stripped out mounting blind hole. I think I've got it fixed. Anyway - its not like its not driveable, just want to minimize the oil seepage. I also raised up the distributor a bit with a spacer to help provide a bit more end clearance for when the oil pump and distributor shafts heat up and expand. I think when the shafts were hot and longer - they were pushing the pump gears down and opening the gasket mating surface as well as possibly striping the threads. We'll see how it turns out...hopefully when I put oil back in it it won't just puddle on the floor. I also cleaned up the oil bath air filter and epoxied the threaded mount for it on top of the carb. Hope we can get another or two to join....

"Tent site at Moab Valley RV Campground Resort - its on 191 on the north end of Moab, right across from Lions Park (common meeting place for runs). Its mostly a big RV site on one side with 'camping' cabins and tent sites on the other.
Will be there on Thur night (10/18) and check out on Sun (10/21). That is 2.5 days of wheeling."

I have rented a camping cabin at this place. It was pretty nice for what it is. Warm. Bring your own bedding (IIRC). Better than tenting it this time of year. Having a hot shower available is also nice! Worth the rent for sure!

I would expect lows to be around 40F - that is plenty warm for camping! We will be in Fruita this coming weekend camping as well.

Jeep started up and oil pressure was good too. Didn't run it long as I couldn't put the air cleaner on...but good to know the distributor and oil pump are working after taking them out. Will get air cleaner and timing finalized Monday. Should be good to go. Probably need to put top on...but maybe not...see how the weather develops for the following week.

Jim - In addition to Hells...thinking Poison Spyder might be worth considering. Golden Spike as well although it might be a bit tougher. If we rally a bit on one day, we could possibly due Hells and Fins in the same day (Fri) then maybe do PS or GS on Sat. Sevenmile could also be a good option for a bit easier warm up on Fri, or on Sunday morning. Just giving you some trails to think about...

Also - looks like Doink might be able to come out...let us know what we can do to get you to join...

I'm told that top of the world is not terribly hard until the very end, and you can hike that section if you don't feel up to the difficulty level for wheeling. It's on our list for November. The trail comes highly recommended by the folks joining us on our trip.

Essentially any and all of those are good. Trent and I went over Hurrah Pass all the way to Chicken Corner last year - probably the only one that I wouldn't endorse although if we are up the Kane Creek Rd for another trail and were looking for a nearby diversion afterwards then it might be okay to go to the top - the view down towards Jackson Bottom and the river is pretty neat.

As for Hells and Fins - they are in Sand Flats Rec Area and have a tendency to be the busiest....might be reason to go on Fri as opposed to Sat, although not sure it makes much difference. I've heard TOtW is pretty cool as well - they have had a lot of rain this past week as well and maybe some snow in the La Salle's - Snow and ice can be an issue in colder months as the elevation gets pretty high. As for PS and GS - they are on my short list. Not sure both can be done in a day realistically with the shorter daylight hours - I think Louis and a few others who tried it a few years ago only got through one of them. Plus, not sure what my cj can get through without locker - but can always put the winch to use.

    1) I'm flexible as to trail choice. If you have desires, let's check'm off.

    2) I think I'll be getting up much earlier than typical - to make use of daylight.

    3) I could see taking the dirt route from Moab to Gateway on the way out - depending upon where things wrap up on Sunday.
