    Default Moab in October

Trent and family with a second vehicle/friend are looking to visit Moab just before Thanksgiving (Nov 17-21).

See his "Moab in November" thread:
    www.FrontRange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?26630

I'm thinking of mid to late Oct for a long weekend with a goal of slightly warmer temps than the November trip. Anyone wish to go in Oct?

I'd be interested: any weekend starting with 10/19-21 until 11/2-4 would work for me.

That can work with me. Let's wait a day or two and see if anyone else is interested / their availability.

Chris, I'm flexible. I think James is flexible (in his range). Is something better for you?

With my goal of a tad warmer, let's go sooner - weekend of Oct 19 thru 21. I'm flexible for other though.

I’m in a “spur of the moment mode” lately and will be for a while, so it is a bit tough to commit.

What trails do you want to visit? I'm fairly clueless as to Moab trails. I have FunTreks Moab to look through.

I would enjoy (to or fro) taking the Gateway CO <> Moab UT trail/road. Not a have to but an "would be nice".

October time frame I may be able to. Wanted to go out early this month but new job means vacation time is hard to come by. Are you planning on leaving for Moab on the 19th or something else?

I'm going to try to make that weekend work, it's been too long since I've been in Moab. In the 3rd edition Moab book, the area 3 map on page 142 shows a great back route from Colorado- Onion Creek / Thompson Canyon / Castleton Gateway Rd.

Awesome to see some interest! For me...I would be looking at heading to Moab on the evening of Thurs (9/18) after work with the intention of wheeling all day Fri (9/19) and Sat (9/20) and then maybe a half day wheeling on Sun morning before returning to Denver that evening. If I were to take Thurs off work as well, then I might be interested to take a scenic route out to Moab, but realistically leaving on Thurs night I would prefer to have 2 full days in Moab on the classic trails.

Sounds good. I'll keep y'all posted. May not be able to get Friday off so we'll have to see if it will work out.

I may be able to swing this now that work is slowing down!

If I'm reading correctly, it looks like October 19-21? I can put in for that weekend off, but I won't know until after my October schedule comes out.

FWIW - My original camping reservation in Moab for early Oct was running up on its cancellation deadline, so I re-booked/transferred the reservation to 10/18-21. The campground's cancellation policy is pretty friendly so this buys some additional time to see if the trip will go or not. cheers

Have a great time you guys! Wish I could go. I'm burning the remainder of my vacation days in MN over Thanksgiving to be with family. (I haven't been back there in 6 years - so I gotta...) I've only been to Moab in the spring and summer. Would love to be there in the fall.

I've been perhaps a bit too quiet in the thread. Oct ?18?, 19, 20, 21 is scheduled on my mind.

James - what campground are you staying at? I'm on the fence re camping vs hotel.

If I end up being able to make it I would strongly consider camping myself, but it would definitely be on the chillier side for sure.

Tent site at Moab Valley RV Campground Resort - its on 191 on the north end of Moab, right across from Lions Park (common meeting place for runs). Its mostly a big RV site on one side with 'camping' cabins and tent sites on the other. I camped there last year when I went with Trent. Its big with lots of sites, and certainly not wilderness or anything like that - but for full service car camping it has nice and clean large shower room/facilities, laundry facility, the RVs are separated from the tents, the staff was very friendly and helpful, it has a pool and hot tub and small little general store, and a small wifi office/room. I like camping at 'Up the Creek' campground right in Moab - tents only - but its small and assuming I tow my jeep, there is no additional parking as its one vehicle per site.

Will be there on Thur night (10/18) and check out on Sun (10/21). That is 2.5 days of wheeling.
