We started hiking at the third the third parking area. Made a 1.2 miles hike plus all the gullies in the main area.

Here's a link to the entire set.

Nice shots Tom. We ran out there this morning, quick trip from Castle Rock prior to seeing these. Parked in the furthest South lot as that is the only one with any space. Came across the hill and saw the area that is mostly grayish white. Cresting the next revealed the big gulch with all of the color. Well worth going and could almost picture the many tribes that used to frequent the area.

Now for the cons as I saw them. As with a lot of public places today, my faith in general humanity took more hits. As in your first picture above, the many of the people seen were all over the formations which is clearly posted, in many places, as not acceptable, even mentioning trespassing charges. A pile of some child’s snack was under a natural cutout, why clean up after ones own kid after all. Ran into three dogs, also clearly marked as not allowed. I was able to “educate” one owner and get her to return her pet to her vehicle.

Maybe this area will become the next Hanging Lake and require a lot of new rules and restrictions to protect it from the masses. Maybe it should be the next Picketwire Canyon and have limited visitation, by registration and fee, and all of those chaperoned by the forest service.

Are these problems of the entitlement era, the influx to the state, or maybe just the seeming lack of community, state, and country these days?

Sorry to have gotten on a soap box. Again Tom, thank you for sharing your pictures.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing. Will have to add this to the list of future trips. Reminds me a lot of Painted Desert, AZ, just smaller.
