    Default Bonanza Colorado

Hooked up with my local COS club and hit Bonanza Colorado and the surrounding mines and a couple peaks in the area. Great weather temperature wise with a few showers off and on early and mid 70's after lunch.

We took County road 200 off Hwy 285 a few miles south of Poncha Springs. Drove in and out of aspens and pines for about 1-1.5 hours before hitting Bonanza. It's largely a ghost town with a few cabins that see seasonal residents. I'm not sure if anyone lives there year round.

    Greetings!!!

Don't blink or you'll miss it!

Headed out of town a little ways and spent some time exploring the old mines.

Afterwards we headed over to Whale Hill and some surrounding peaks.

Looking north back toward Poncha Springs

West side of the Sangre de Cristo's. Westcliffe would be on the other side.

I agree, it's definitely got a unique feel to it. Also, there seems to be no shortage of spurs, and I'm sure there are other structures to be seen in the area as well. I was also thinking fall colors around there would be awesome.

The ridge on the east has all kinds of mines and trails that go over to hwy 50 and the pass to salida.

I didn't notice any color change yet. It was actually very, very green everywhere.
