Default Argentine Pass - All Spurs Day. late aug early sept

Jim and I have been discussing running the two trails circled on the pic. We have been discussing late Aug or the first couple of weekends in Sept. Posting here to see if there is any interest, and/or preferences as to date. Labor day weekend is likely out, but if people want to do it then I am open.

Those are the trails on my mind as well.

I believe I'll be rather flexible as to when.

I'm looking to make this happen!

Tom, thanks for kicking the rock to get this moving.

The run could be titled - Argentine Pass - All Spurs Day

I’ll keep an eye on it. Haven’t run Argentine yet, but the general area is nice.

I am planning to run Argentine pass on Aug 19. I need to look more closely at your map to see what those spurs are.

Does one of these spurs take you to the Santiago Mine? I've seen photos of it up that way, but I'm not sure where it is.

Trent - I believe its spur 248.2G on the MVUM Tom posted above. Not one of the spurs they are looking to run. It was very close (but up higher) to where you probably stopped this past weekend for the split between going towards Argentine and the steep climb up the beginning of McClellan.

I know nothing of the spurs aside from 1) seeing them on an MVUM and 2) looking at satellite pix. There could be a gate, a washout, craziness. That's part of the exploration!! I wish I could say more for ya.

James is correct. From Tom's picture, the red circle on the left involves McClellan's trails and goes near the Santiago Mine spur. Here's a Google Satellite link of the mine buildings where you can see how it's located with respect to the trails. Of note is that about 66 yards away from the buildings is a gate to keep explorers away (bummer).

I know exactly where it is. That spur has been closed since late 2016. Started out as cleanup for contamination. I have heard lately that the mine was sold and the new owners are keeping it closed to the public.

I know Chris had run the spur on the east a few years back. I don't think its very difficult. The upper spur has a fairly narrow shelf road, at least it appears so from looking down the trail from the jct.

So, Tom, Do you have any plan for the trails? I'm game for about anything.

I could see the McClellan dead-ender to be straight forward (as it's mostly visible in sat pix) and the eastern in-the-trees zig-zag more of an unknown (and longer). Do you want to hit the McClellan dead ender first and then try the eastern set on the way out? Hitting the two view points (McClellan and Argentine) are optional (McClellan we'll be right there) but I'd be game.

I was thinking the same. Do the eastern (my) spur on the way back. I don’t have any real desire to do McClellan, I’ve done it twice since we were up there last, but if you want to, and it will leave time for my spur, sure.

Guys sounds like fun I'll most likely jump on run. Brother in-law in town it would be fun to take him wheeling. Soon as I firm up my plans I'll put my status on run..
