Some folks choose to meet at Sandstone Park in Lyons. Meet spots with cell coverage are often desired.

The trail head for Pole Hill, I believe, also has cell coverage and could be chosen as well (it's not overly large but should be large enough...). Some folks, who have not been to the trail, might benefit from meeting in Lyons. One downfall to Sandstone Park is that if there's a festival going on there is no parking available. The U-Pump-It on the north side of US-36 (the first gas station on the RIGHT) typically has ample parking - and it's a right turn out of the parking lot to get moving. The first gas station on the LEFT is where folks sometimes meet - but parking can be tight and getting out of the lot (left turn across 36) can take time. I'm a fan of Sandstone or the U-Pump-It / first station on the RIGHT.

There are reports of nails near the entrance and on the trail.

Maliciously placed nails? I've heard of booby traps on mountain bike trails before, too. People astound me.

Rob and I ran Pole hill on Saturday, July 28 (The week prior). We did not see or have trouble with any nails. The trail looks like it has had a lot of work done on it. A lot of the old challenging spots are no longer much of a challenge. Some spurs were closed and the big mud crossing was closed. It is still a fun trail and really pretty views (especially from "The Notch"). We passed a few other Jeeps, trucks, quads and dirt bikes but it really wasn't crowded except for the trail head. We didn't even stop to air down.
