    Default Adopt-a-Trail Clean-up: 7/21/2018

Thank you to all who participated today - I believe the members were: Jim, Getaklu (Chris and family), Taco Chris, dieseldoc (Brandon and Theresa), dwine (Dillon and friend), Doink (Brian) and Jen with me.

Jim, Doink, Getaklu and myself worked on Devils Canyon and dieseldoc, dwine and Taco Chris did Barbour fork. The DC crew had no issues and for the most part, the trail was a bit cleaner than usual. We think the combination fire and shooting ban has probably limited how many people are using the area so far this summer.

When the BF crew get a chance, drop us a line to confirm all went well and please let me know if I need to report anything to Brant at USFS - and the trail report form would also be great so I can pass it along to Brant.

thanks - will post a few pics when we get a chance

Everything went well on Barbour fork. We picked up a full bag of trash and a fender liner. Brandon said there really wasn’t that much trash up there either. However I managed to pinch a hole in the line of my remote resi on the rear right shock but ran the whole trail anyway. Fun trail and good company it was great to meet you guy’s. Thanks for having me.

I second the "thank you" to those who were able to attend and sorry a few had to drop out as late as this morning, hope all is well.

As stated above, the trash was not too heavy today. There were some odd "finds" - 1/2 of a fishing pole, a pair of reading glasses, an old muffler, and part of a window screen. There was also some sheathing that was used to hold targets, and a large piece of wood that apparently used to be used as a picnic table. Kudos to Jim for hauling it to a central location for P/U by the FS strapped to his cage.

James was able to get the Fire Restriction sign up on the way in and the Adopted by Front Range sign up on the way out.

First off, thank you James for putting this together. It was great to get together for such a good cause! We had a great time on the trail. I thought I'd be in 2x2 most of the time but I ended up in 4x4 the whole time. Thanks to Brandon's professional eye everyone made it out alive with only a few upset bellies. Brought my girlfriend out for the first time and she loved it. She's excited to join us again soon. Taco Chris, you killed it bro. If I didn't have a Jeep I'd have a Yota. I'd say the uphill was much easier than the downhill. I scared the sh*t out of Bri on the way down. Overall, we picked up a good amount of trash and left the trail better than it was before. So glad we were able to be a part of this!

Bourbor fork is a lot of fun.
The big hill right before the meadow is good fun but that big drop on the way down is a bit of a shocker..
That drop is why I disconnected my SRS system...

Thank you to all of you who were able to go out !!! Hearing the reports and seeing the pictures makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside with memories of Barbour Fork, one of my all time favorite trails. I have many pictures and videos of that one. Not sure if I had been on Devils Canyon but James, you or Chris would be able to clarify that for me. I keep thinking about how much stuff the Elephant woulda been able to carry outa either trail....
Been having some more health complications that has kept me from even getting in the Elephant, all is going a little better, so I will be able to share some photos of " The River" sooner than later.
I do very much miss y'all and appreciate you allowing me to remain on the forum even though i had to move away!!!! It might not be this season but I do have to make the trip up there a couple times a year to visit Ma -N- Pa as well as wheel some trails !! Hope to see you guys and gals sooner than later !!!
All my best wishes and prayers to you all, be safe
    Phillip

I’m not sure if you had been on that trail, but it would be a good one for you and the Elephant. There was one spur that surely would have given you a lot of pinstiping, but that is part of it. We could have used the your carrying capacity for sure. Definitely put this trail on your list when you get back this way.

    We had a great day.
    Trail condition is fair.
We did this counter clock wise for show at the Rocky section.
Brusser did not let down....did a big wheel stand!

We had more trash from the parking lot as I expected.
Some trigger trash up high. For the most part we saw very little.
Am surprised as we scheduled for after the holiday weekends!

We ran into a flat tire.....clean off the rim flat tried!
The folks we ran into there had been sitting for near an hour for the repair.
Seems they got thing together and done about the time we showed up.
The up hill section in getting rough.
Last year in the TJ we spent most the day in 2wheel drive....
This year we used 4low in a few spots.
The spin out holes are getting deep!

But in all was a great day to give back.

James I will send you the form this evening.

Chris and family joined with me for the first half of the trail. We went down the long downslope dead end spur, stopping at current and long unused campsites. It was worth going down the spur.

Down the spur, the north-east side had a loop with the sign.

Up the spur, the south-west side, had a campsite with a structure tied to trees. Cords were cut and removed.

Good work. I couldnt do this one, my wife was in Arizona with family for the weekend, but I will do the fall run.

Should James have the "Organizer" badge for his efforts with this? He's been leading the cleanups since Brad's tenure.

So I checked the badges thread:
You must have a leadership role in organizing an event. That is you are organizing a clean up run, have a significant role in the Anniversary Run, organizing a fall picnic, organizing a food drive, etc. This is not for simply organizing a regular run (although we do appreciate that).

So, yes, yes he should. Done!

    Thx!

A couple questions for you guys as I finalize the report form to send to USFS:
    1) Jim and Chris - was that the 'framework' of a shelter that you have in the pics down the long spur 246.1B? I assume you took it down?
    2) I have the gps location of the table top and waste bag that we left - but looking for a picture if anyone took one.
    2) Do we have any observations or requests for maintenance on Barbour Fork?
    3) Lastly, I would like to include some pics to Brant...Does anyone mind if I use their picture that they have taken (not of the person but the actual digital photo? I only intend to send photos that do not include people to avoid any issues or concerns along those lines (except one of myself - and I signed the waivers saying it was okay).

    thanks guys.

Framework for a make shift shelter. Jim cut the ropes holding it up so it is now down.

The picture is in the third pic in post 5 above, the table top on the ground with the bag on top.

Good to go with pics, signed waiver as well.

2b) Do we have any observations or requests for maintenance on Barbour Fork?
    3) Lastly, I would like to include some pics to Brant...Does anyone mind if I use their picture that they have taken (not of the person but the actual digital photo? I only intend to send photos that do not include people to avoid any issues or concerns along those lines (except one of myself - and I signed the waivers saying it was okay)."

    1) Yes, taken down. All ropes / wires taken as refuse. Limbs laying on the ground where they fell.
2a) Look at my web site - I have a pic of the table / poo bag location though you can't readily see the items. I think one of the other gent's might have a pic of the items on the ground.
    3) If any pic of mine might be of use - it may be used. Thx for the courtesy.
