crystal is closed. there is a gate about a half mile in that was put in by a leasee a few years ago. you can still run moody hill though.

Moody is open. I ran it saturday on the atv. The forest service gate on crystal is open but you can't even get to the other gate due to downed trees.

From moody to the crystal trail head is closed? Are the drowned trees unintentional or were they put there by forest service? I ran crystal last year just fine and I exited through the public road.

Crystal is open from the end of Moody to the leased land gate. The downed tress are from windfall over the winter. Hopefully the club that adopts the trail will clear them soon. If you ran the whole trail last year you got lucky that the gate at the leased land was open. Thee is no public road to exit the area, Crystal Mtn road out to Buckhorn Raod is private but the FS has an access agreement.

I'll keep an eye out for this gate. The only gate I passed last year was the one at the trail head, and the one that the close in winter from moody hill. If it's a forest road, how can private lease have the right to close it?

Sounds like I might enjoy a casual morning doing some clearing this Saturday...

The road crosses state land that is leased on a 5 year term, it is not all FS land. A few years ago the state land board required the lessee to install a gate at the boundary.

The entire Section 36 is state land. The gate is at the upper right corner.

Do you know if the lessee is required to keep the gate locked?

Yes they are. Even if they were not the group of people that have the lease currently do not want anyone else to use the road.

Ok you probably didn't do all of crystal last year then. The first part of it starts on moody a little ways past the quarry. Once you get to crystal mtn rd. If you go straight across. That is the rest of crystal mtn trail. Most people don't know that the part east of crystal mtn road is actually crystal mtn trail they just consider that moody. That's probably only 10% of the actual crystal mtn trail. Which is no longer accessable.I

So the trail portion that has obstacles is open? And only assceible from cr44?

We never made it today, a friend's drive shaft exploded on i25.

I entered the trail last time from moody, drove to the peak, turned back and I left on a road fs had bulldozed, it was pretty rough still. To be clear I'm trying to enter the main trail portion that goes to the peak. I surely hope this land is still open, so much seems to close up there.

Please report what you find if you go jim!

No, you cannot get to the part with the obstacles, the playground area, or the peak. All of that is on or past the leased land.

Sounds like you exited through the private Crystal Mtn Road that the FS has an access agreement. Just FYI it is just as fast if not faster to just go back down Moody.
