    Default Hello!

Hi, I'm Curtis and in December I flew out to Gainesville, FL to buy my brother's 1990 4Runner. He had put in a lot of work and luckily for me, it got me the 2,000 miles home.

This is my first 4WD vehicle and the impetus to get it was to get me and the family out in nature more often. So far, so good! I'm also a photographer and videographer and thought it would be nice to open up my photography experience to nature.

On Monday I did my first trail run to Metberry Gulch. I whimped out at the big granite slab, though. I was alone, no winch, and just didn't want to risk getting stuck down there. The only person I saw the whole day was an Xcel employee going to inspect the Transmission line tower.

    Here's a 360 Pano: https://viewer.hangar.com/360?assetId=/R0bDXAKj

I did hike down to the river though.

I drive a Scion xB as a daily, so the 28 year-old 4Runner mainly gets used for nature trips and on snow days. I don't have any big modification plans for it, but I might look for ways to improve it's capability on trails. It's mostly stock running 31" tires. Primarily, I'd just like to get out in the beautiful areas of the state we are so fortunate to live near.

P.S. I love old school forums. It's a shame Facebook came along and stole everyone's eyeballs. I used to run one of these for my business back in the mid-late 2000's.

    Welcome to the group!

Great photo! I've yet to travel that trail but it helped "fill in the blanks" for what to expect.

Looks like you had a good time - I wanna get down and explore that area more but it's just a bit far for a day trip sadly. Glad to have ya around!

I really did. I know doing something like, especially as a beginner, is best done with other folks, but the solitude was really nice. It really was too much for a day trip. I started out of the house just after 4:30 a.m. and had to start making my way back by 11 a.m. to pick up the kids at 2:30 p.m. Next time I'll plan at least an overnight. It was beautiful, though.

    Your pic is sweet!
From Littleton- it shouldn't be too bad getting to the Gulches, although its not right out the door. Heading down via hwy 67 from Sedalia through Deckers and to Cedar Mt Rd makes it pretty reasonable. But its always a long day going to the Gulches. There are 2 more 'gulches': Longwater and Hackett. In the summer with long days (which we pretty much have right now), its nice to try and squeeze two of them in a day trip to make it a bit more worthwhile. But its always a late return in the evening. Camping down there and running all them over a weekend is a good plan.
